She is gorgeous Blake and the picture is very good too. But I can understand what they're talking about, wanting to take others. The composition is good, but the black thing she's laying on is too obscure and not immediately recognizable. And there's a bit too much of it. It detracts from the precious little subject of the photo itself by making the observer wonder what it is she's laying on. It's almost as if the black thing and Ella are competing for the leading role of the photograph.
Emily, the friend, does really good work, shes just not satisfied with the way they came out.
BTW, the black thing is an afghan that my mother in law knitted for Ella.
Things were so busy at home that first weekend home, I didnt get to take any pics. The one I managed to snap of Conner that first day we were back home is still one of my favorite pictures ever.
And Thanks Scott. I think she is beautiful too, but, I may be a little biased.

I used to be pretty good. In my younger days, I had a few pics published in fire publications and was a contractor for a stock photography company. Like everything else, I lost interest. 
I kinda thought it was an afghan but it's sorta out of place in the barn setting. Maybe move the hat to the left to hide some of it and spread more hay around on the right side of the pic where the pink thing is showing thru. You'd be surprised how little changes make a lot of difference!

Me personally, I wouldnt have put her on that afghan. I would have put her on my Carhartt jacket.

However, in this modern day you should be able to super glue a GPS camera phone onto them so you can keep an eye on them.
Than a burqa with electronic immobilization probes mounted all over it with automatic testosterone sensor deployed shocks
and a remote control backup that the parent can activate via the camera phone.
I will come up with some other ideas for you if you are actually going to let them out of the house.
