Morning.

Went and looked at the truck yesterday. It was gorgeous, ran great and was just what we were looking for. Unfortunately, it needs tires and brakes and they won't budge on the price. We won't be getting that one.

Today is Tuesday, October 12th.

On this day in 1492 - Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, sighted Watling Island in the Bahamas. He believed that he had found Asia while attempting to find a Western ocean route to India. The same day he claimed the land for Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain.

1792 - The first monument honoring Christopher Columbus was dedicated in Baltimore, MD.

1892 - In celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Columbus landing the original version of the Pledge of Allegiance was first recited in public schools.

1915 - Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt criticized U.S. citizens who identified themselves by dual nationalities.

1915 - British nurse Edith Cavell was executed by a German firing squad for helping Allied soldiers escape from Belgium during World War I.

1920 - Construction of the Holland Tunnel began. It opened on November 13, 1927. The tunnel links Jersey City, NJ and New York City, NY.

1933 - John Dillinger, bank robber, escaped from a jail in Allen County, OH. The sheriff was killed by his gang as they helped Dillinger escape.

1933 - The U.S. Department of Justice acquired Alcatraz Island from the U.S. Army.

1942 - During World War II, Attorney General Francis Biddle announced that Italian nationals in the United States would no longer be considered enemy aliens.

1945 - Private First Class Desmond T. Doss was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor for outstanding bravery as a medical corpsman. He was the first conscientious objector in American history to win the award.

1972 - During the Vietnam War, a racial brawl broke out aboard the U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. Nearly 50 sailors were injured.

2000 - In Aden, Yemen, the USS Cole, a U.S. Navy destroyer, experienced a large explosion while refueling. The explosion was the result of a terrorist attack using a small boat. 17 crewmembers were killed and at least 39 were injured.

2001 - A special episode of America's Most Wanted was aired that focused on 22 wanted terrorists. The show was specifically requested by U.S. President George W. Bush.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
How is it that when we "skate on thin ice", we can "get in hot water"?

sorry 'bout the truck scotty....

Fronty, hope you find the right balance between work/travel/and your back. maybe you can travel only once every two months....( only the good places LOL)

cool emails rick- having the same problem- got stuff to do and no excuses....

stood out in the rain yesterday like an idiot, but watched my roof valleys work flawlessly....right onto where the gutter was supposed to be if i had actually installed it and was DONE!

now I have to wait for the wood to dry out, paint it then put the gutter back up. is there an excuse for 'just stupid'?

off to swim, really good for the body!

Its been in the mid 70's and low 80's til today. Even with the temp at 55 is still real nice and sunny. Beautiful fall day.
I have been ultra choring all around the house as well as inside. Put the first coat on the last wall in the living room. Needs one more coat and then its FINALLY done. I hate painting in small closets! Stairwell is all that is left and its only a small part of it.
Managed to get all 34 blocks in place under the covered patio. Garage pkg is here in two wks. Got the gates hung for the rv pad too.
Doing all of this while I work odd ball shifts and start training...squats and lunges now...ow.

I wore my good shoes outside today and guess what I found in the tread? Yes a 3" screw from the fence was embedded about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. I thought about Madhat and his slipper.

Winter is close here...hopefully not much snow hits the ground in the first wk in Nov so we can get the garage up. Ordered it prefabbed so should take 2 days to be closed in.

Hope everyone is doing alright. I have to figure out why since I started training, I cannot stop sweating...its like I turned on a tap and it WILL NOT STOP. Very strange.

Kinda like this room.
