It is with great personal inconvenience and duress that this post comes to you this morning... been without power since 10PM last nite. AGAIN!

* The origins of Halloween date back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced sow-in).
* The Celts lived the area known as Ireland, the United Kingdom and France about 2,000 years ago.
* The Celts celebrated their new year on November 1. This was the end of summer and the beginning of winter and when it was believed that ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
* The Celts believed that during the season transition that the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred.
* By 43 A.D. the Romans had conquered most of Celtic territories. Two festivals of Roman origin were combined with the Celtic festival Samhain.
* In the seventh century, Pop Boniface IV designated November 1 as All Saint's Day. It is believed that this move was an attempt to replace the Celtic festival with a state sanctioned holiday that was related. This celebration was called All-hallows or All-hallowmas. The night before All Saint's Day (All-hallows) became known as All-hallows Eve…and eventually Halloween.
* American eventually reinvented Hallowmas by removing the religious overtones and made it into a harvest festival.
* Colonial Halloween celebrations included ghost stories and mischief making.
* In the mid-1800s, Americans began to dress up in costumes and go house-to-house asking for food or money….later known as trick-or-treat.
* By the 1950s, Halloween had evolved to a holiday that catered mainly to children. The practice of trick-or-treating was revived during this time.

We figured next time we go we'll go to Tulum to see the ruins. Heard it was pretty cool. And we both want to do the snorkling in the caves and in the ocean. She can do any underwater diving due to her asthma. I'm looking forward to the next trip and that swim up bar they had!

Mornin gang - - happy Booooo day. Have to get ready for them critters tonight. Think I will hide in the bushes in my chaikwa costume and scare the bejeebers out of them - - cheaper than handing out candy.

OK, grabbing my ph00 and heading for the lanai for breakfast - - gorgeous out there. See ya,
Bob

Hey, I've done my pink chores for the day - - cleaned all floors (hard and soft), picked up all the stuff off the floor in my office and found my desk and a bunch of other stuff I lost, cleaned the lanai and watered the orchids, cleaned the garage floor, and -- - - - now I am exhausted. I think it is time for another foo and head for the lanai and get some suntan. I am getting too white. Sure looks nice out there. Interesting to watch the sun sneak under the lanai roof a little further each day as fall progresses. Also watching the sunset move further south each day. God did good.
OK, I'm done - - going to drink my ph00. Bye.

politics as usual here, some cowardly acts of stuffing mailboxes with hate mail about me. getting phone calls of support and plainly, people are mad as hell that someone is messing with their mail. no pictures/no investigation from the Post office. can't control other people, so I try not to worry about it. I will just see what happens election day....

Come up here and watch the sunset around the middle of January, THEN tell me how good God did!
WHOA!
Another Claude post without any spelling errors! I think that makes 2 this year!

I think we got power back around 4 this afternoon. I wasn't here when it came on. We were over at Lowe's doing the smoke detector gig. Gave away almost 1000 of them and around 600 batteries for those folks that had detectors but needed batteries for them. All the publicity and effort that went into this project this year and we'll STILL have some fires this winter where people either won't have any smoke detectors in the house at all, or the ones that are there won't work.
Makes me quite irritated to say the least. And it's almost always the kids that pay the price for the stupid parents.
Bite your tongue!
Thanks!
That's the problem... they ain't alive!
That's because they aren't smart enough to be able to do anything legitimately. What are you running for Heidi?
Evening all.
