The DTR break room

There, a nice simple name this week!
Where is everybody? Got up expecting to find a new break room, wondered around, but nothing. Oh well, so dug the coffee pot out of the old room and wondered what to do with it. It is really encrusted with some kind of smelly black 'tar'. What to do with it? Try and wash it, throw it out or what? Decided just to rinse it and brew up some good strong Mexican coffee. No other kind today unless somebody else brews it. There are fresh tacos of various sorts plus some other Mexican goodies next to the microwave. Help yourself.

Combined with it being a full moon and a Saturday night it was a noisy night last night down here. Having nice weather just added to the party atmosphere. Down here we apparently do not have the the anti-noise regulations that you have north of the border and as the Mexicans love a long noisy party, they PARTIED! There were at least three very loud parties going on in my neighborhood. That means lots of people and a band with a high powered speaker system set to a gillion watts output at every party. Hated to shut my windows, but I finally did to try to dampen some of the noise, but it was still noisy.

Y'all have a great day when you finally fall out of bed. C'mon, times a wastin'.

A thought for those going through a hard time:
Don't tell GOD how Big your storm is.
Tell the storm how Big your GOD is!

Mornin' y'all .... thanks for the breakfast Stan !! (dunno what the rest of you are gonna eat though ....).

Found out last week that we were picked to adopt a group of 3 kiddos ... two boys and a girl ages 3, 9 & 12 !! Gotta read their full profile and meet them yet ... but we're keeping our fingers crossed on these ones. That'll fill all the seats in the Swagger Wagon... just need to locate a bigger dinner table !!

Y'all keep em straight out there .... aaaaiiiiiiggghhhttt ????

Cheers,
PISTOL

What is it about Navy guys and big familys? Worried you might need more people to paddlew the boat? Congrats Pistol.

Morning DTR. Little wet today. Played around with a buck this morning. He was gonna cross until he saw the jeep, then ran along the shoulder in my lights while I slowed down behind him. He was having a hard time on the soft shoulder, sinking in so it looked like he was dancing around. I finally helped him make his mind up and layed on the horn.

Good coffee.

I've always wondered that too. 17 in my fathers family and that was only Coast Guard!

Morning all.

It's Sunday, October 24th.

On this day in 1836 - Alonzo D. Phillips received a patent for the phosphorous friction safety match.

1861 - The first transcontinental telegraph message was sent when Justice Stephen J. Field of California transmitted a telegram to U.S. President Lincoln.

1929 - In the U.S., investors dumped more than 13 million shares on the stock market. The day is known as "Black Thursday."

1931 - The George Washington Bridge opened for traffic between New York and New Jersey.

1939 - Nylon stockings were sold to the public for the first time in Wilmington, DE.

1940 - In the U.S., the 40-hour workweek went into effect under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.

1945 - The United Nations (UN) was formally established less than a month after the end of World War II. The Charter was ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories.

1945 - Pierre Laval of France and Vidkum Abraham Quisling of Norway were executed. The two men were recognized as the two most prominent collaborators of the *****.

1948 - The term "cold war" was used for the first time. It was in a speech by Bernard Baruch before the Senate War Investigating Committee.

1949 - The cornerstone for the U.N. Headquarters was laid in New York City.

1960 - All remaining American-owned property in Cuba was nationalized. The process of nationalizing all U.S. and foreign-owned property in Cuban had begun on August 6, 1960.

1962 - During the Cuban Missile Crisis, U.S. military forces went on the highest alert in the postwar era in preparation for a possible full-scale war with the Soviet Union. The U.S. blockade of Cuba officially began on this day.

2001 - The U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation that gave police the power to secretly search homes, tap all of a person's telephone conversation and track people's use of the Internet.

2001 - The U.S. stamp "United We Stand" was dedicated.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Why is it when some products you have to turn it upside down to read the directions, and the directions say do not turn upside down?

Thanks for the coffee Stan.

Mornin, my friends.

Stan, thanks for opening the breakroom. Good saying at the end.

PW, that's a lot of youngins at your house. Wish I could help you on the table! Good luck!

Red, that's pretty good... need some train horns...

Scott... I'm not too sure about the 17 fathers statement... care to expound on that?

Mornin, Rick.

Body was all broke off when I woke up this morning from the steady pace yesterday... I'm not complaining, I miss working like that. My hands don't right this minute, but I do!

Worked on two cars yesterday, too. One dude with a chevy lumina that has a blown hg, and a dude that had a 'whine' when he drove it... "Did you check your fluids? Sounds like a diff or xfer case."

"No..."

"Go check your fluids, let me know what you find."

So, he gets someone else to listen to him and check his fluids for him... guess what? No fluid in the transfer case.

Thanks dad for teaching me how to work on my own crap, and to have at least half a brain.

Happy Sunday, gang. Wow, Stan the man opening up the break room - - something wrong here. Slow going today. Gorgeous down down this way, gentle breeze, warm, lots of blue skies.

Been soooo busy - - I have to go find a job - - I am way too busy retired. Or else I need to learn to say NO. Hard when you like helping people. Oh well, keep on pressing upward.

Grabbing some of this stuff in the pot marked ph00 - - hmmm, wonder what it is? Oh well, sipping and gone. Be good.

Bob

I was afraid that might be too in-depth for some of you to follow, so I'll try to esplain it again. Try to follow along this time, mkay?

There were 17 kids in my fathers family. In other words, he had 16 brothers and sisters. OR, another way to 'expound' on it would be that my grandmother bore 17 children. Yet another way; I had 16 aunts and/or uncles all of which were sisters and/or brothers to my father.

Wanna get REAL confused? My sister, (MINE now, not my fathers!), is one year younger than my mother.

"I'm my own granpa!" do dit do, don't ask him to explain it. some furry cousin lives near you anyways.

72 degrees here, cloudy but it is 72 degrees. worked in the morning with hubby, took a bike ride to Friendly's and Lowe's for parts, then back to work on scaffolding.
blew off swimming friday and I AM paying the price. won't do that again.

checked weather, nope no rain. layed thin set mortar on porch. rain. then cat prints all over the new mortar pad. cause, y'know- she had to inspect the new construction- just like going up and down the ladder when checking out my roof work...tar prints. troweled the cougar sized prints back in. would not have been still wet, but IT RAINED! hubby said should have left them there to set, scare away any burglars with those size paw prints...( seven pound cat but large prints because- IT RAINED!) I'm all betta now....

had Tim the truckee's coffee.......80 percent proof....
