drag racer ?

can you run oval slicks at the drag strip? i have access to ALOT of oval tires for free, and am takin the van for its first big run friday. thanks

They better be free. Why would you even want oval tires? Round ones ride much better.

If they have a speed rating or a DOT certification, i believe they would be ok to run.

We tried a set once and they work great on corners but blew them off on the strip.Same thing they were free so we thought why not!

Back when I had my 68 Road Runner 440 I ran some Oval track take-offs that I got for free. I was so tight back then that I squeeked! Anyways, they worked OK but I really had to do a hellacious burnout to get them to hook up, especially with the nitrous. The drawback is that they don't have soft sidewalls so it's hard to launch hard without spinning but they lasted me a couple of years. Also, they won't be as tall as any of the "Real" slicks out there so they may actually help you if you can hook up....

I tried a set on a supercharged 66 Chevelle and they were better than street tires but not as good as a drag tire. To stiff a sidewall and airing them down did not help much.

well i'll see if i have the time to mount a set up, gonna be tite, have some nice street tires on it now and have a set of drag slicks i can borrow, loading up in the morning and heading out. hoping for low 13s......we'll see, i'll have some pics and a time slip tomorrow night
