Dog Problems
Dog Problems
Guys,

I have a problem with two of the neighbors dog that he decides to let loose. The problem is that they come over to my yard and beat up on my 6 month old rotweiler that is tied up. I've tried to be civil about it and go through the proper procedures a.k.a dog catcher. Although, I have had no luck with this option since the dog catcher is personal friends with the neighbor that owns the dogs. I'm ready to take care of the dogs with my .22 but I'd rather not do that so if any you have any suggestions it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

CCI makes some really nice .22 short hollow points that are subsonic. Just remove the screen from the window offering the best field of fire, and commence from inside the house. The room muffles the sound very well.
OBTW, if you were any type of "wing wiper" or "skimmer" in the past, be sure to remember to OPEN the window before eliminating your problem.

Paint ***** straight out of the freezer make a heck of a bruise but don't leave any paint. Plus the sound of a CO2 gun going off doesn't arouse any official interest.

Videotape one of the attacks and go to the Town Council about the inability or unwillingness of the dog catcher to do his job. Raise a stink.

If all else fails, drop them in your yard and swear they were attacking your dog - you have the right to protect your property.

While I can appreciate the need to resort to serious measures such as paint guns or 22's or bb's, you might lose in small claims court. Even though you know absolutely they are wrong, you'd be more wrong. The courts don't consider dogs as livestock which would rate such protective measures. However, something that is very effective is ammonia in a powerful watergun, one of those master blasters, guaranteed to hit anything within 50 feet or so. A few times with ammonia will make them seek other, less irritating targets. I use to jog through an area where dogs got loose a few times. A spray across the face works. The ammonia gun made the run much more enjoyable. As for the negligent owner, document every attempt to resolve the issue. The good ol' buddy dog catcher. Document every attempt to correct the loose pets. You'll have better results if you can say, day and time, who contacted, results of the conversation and if you can show that this occurred on several occasions, you've got the strong hand. The catcher may be able to say, well I was busy on a cattle roundup on the first attempt, chasing ducks on the second one but believe me, excuses get weak on the third time. In the meantime, be the wronged person, not the masked avenger that shot with life threatening intent, someone's pet. If the animal died, their precious puppy wouldn't have harmed a soul. They'll drag out pictures of the children cuddling up to Brutus and remember, they have the dog catcher on their side. What's really sad here is that it's not really the dogs fault. Their owners should be drug into court and banned from owning pets forever. Most pet problems originate with the owners negligent attitude towards their responsibilities as pet owners. In the meantime, Ammonia pistols work great. By the way, I do not own dogs or cats. My work hours do not allow me the time to properly take care of their needs. Sometime in the future perhaps, but not right now.

~Dave
Around the outside area of you tieup area use a small ectric fence charger. We use a bigger one for the wolfs, they soon learn that the wire means we be hurting. After a while they wont even come near the wire even off.Just a thought.
Re:Dog Problems
A combination Of Ground Milkbone and C-4 with a Pressure sensitive plasting cap should do the trick. Of Course A squirt gun with ammonia works too. ;D
Oh and Claymores as a last resort[move]...FIRE IN THE HOLE![/move]

Re:Dog Problems
Seriously....my first step would be to go talk to the neighbor. You may have already done that, but if so you didn't mention it. I'd go politely talk with him about the problem. If he responds in a courteous manner, then the problem is solved. If he's a jerk about it, then you can take other measures. I'd try talking to him first though.
I have used rubbing alcohol in the extra spray bottle when I was still coordinated enough to go bike riding. That will stop them right in their tracks but in this case, you have to catch them in the act.
I know exactly what he is going through. Four big hunting dogs attacked mine one morning when she went out to do her business. Cost me in excess of $1500 dollars to get her patched up. Town wouldn't do anything and neither would the law. As Forrest Gump would say, "that's all I'm gonna say bout that". No more dog problems though.

Another method to keep them from coming back....... ever........ :

Keep your dog tied up or inside, leave a couple doughnuts soaked in windshield washer fluid. Somewhere where nuisaince dogs will find them.

They won't be back for seconds.
