Dodge vans
Re:Dodge vans
Okie, as I understand it, the engine really isn't a Mercedes, but made by a Mercedes supplier. It sounds like you might be working on them already so maybe you know more about this.
Re:Dodge vans
As far as I know commatoze, it is a Mercedes. The last one I pulled out for a new one came straight from Germany in a wooden box. MB also had one of the engineers come out and look at the engine that I had taken out. So, unless I have been told wrong, this is a true MB engine.
Re:Dodge vans
Guess that answers that. To get a diesel kid hauler I'll have to either buy a GM or build my own. On another site I saw a 70's Dodge camper that the owner installed a diesel out of an early 90's Dodge p.u. From the way it sounds it was an almost drop in fit. Wonder how close the van chassis is to the pickup chassis when it comes to engine and tranny mounting points.
Lug

Just think how easy it would be to change injectors, with the engine sitting right next to you.

No more straining, reaching, balancing to reach injector #6.

Re:Dodge vans
We bought an '85 Chevy 1-ton van specifically to tow an RV with - was VERY convenient for traveling with the camper conversion I did on it - had a 350 gas V8 tho, plenty of power, but only about 13 MPG solo - never did get a trailer to pull with it, ended up with a Winnebago motorhome instead...

But the convenience of a van like that, with the power and economy of a diesel like the Cummins would make a great setup - great for towing, plus plenty of room for shorter weekenders and for when you get to your RVing destination...
