do you "bookmark" traffic to check your shortcuts?
there is a little short cut on my way to work.
snake road, goose creek, sc
Google Maps:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ta...0creek%2C%20sc
every morning, about 3 or 4 people turn right OFF State Road s-8-43 (old state road)
and onto "snake river road"
and they sit at the stop light at Foster Creek.
then they drive on towards Red bank road, and sit at the stop sign, while ALL THe traffic that WAS behind them, goes past them, as they wait at the stop light.
if you go straight on State Road s-8-43 (old state road)
and to the intersection at Red bank road,
it's a ROLLING stop with it's OWN lane.
in other words, it's as fast as you can go with the road conditions (potholes & rough)
so there's no stopping, just hauling.
there are about 5 ways to get to my work, so i have the wife pick a few cars to "bookmark" - some that are distinguishable, somehow, like a truck full of ladders, or pulling a trailer, something noticable.
its about 12 miles, and there is a combo of highways, 2 lanes, 4 lanes and thru town sections.
and it's amazing how often we cross paths with them later on as we near the port area.

I do the same, however it's not necessarily faster, it just constant moving with exception of catching a stop light or two. I'd rather be movin' than sittin' even if it takes the same time.

I do the same, and I die inside when I see a tractor trailer ahead of me that I passed earlier before jumping onto a shortcut. I also have my checkpoints- I know I'm on schedule to be on time for work if I hit "X" by 0718, "Y" by 07:33 and "Z" by 07:46.

That's funny. My old shortcut is not far from there. Liberty to N. Rhett to I-526. I beat it's not a short cut anymore because everyone has found it.....LOL
Oops. that was I-526. I worked on Daniels Island and lived in Monks Corner....

Over the last 9 years, I have tried several different ways to get to work. the old highway is the same time if you do the speed limit. The catch is, you can run 5 over on the old highway and usually average 10 under due to traffic on the new highway. This difference shaves about 5 minutes off my trip each way.
The big difference depends on whether or not school is in session. Thats another 5 minutes or so in the mornings.
