Then there was the time we got stuck on a snow pile and the banshee screams coming from the farm house nearby...gotta fly...will post it later.

Scotty

OK I am back.

We were heading back from the lake and decided to take a short cut on a grid road. Only problem was there was a stretch that had about a mile long where there was still a pile of snow...that blocked the road and we hit it at 70 mph and parked almost dead center in the middle. Whoops.
So there we are in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere.
6 of us with a few beers in us.
We decide that two of us will stay with the car, two would go south to the main highway and two would head towards the farm where we could see a yard light.

Within a few minutes we hear some sort of screaming from the farm and we can see an upstairs room lit up with a shadow in the window...we figured someone was looking out at us and we blinked our flashlight at them.

About a 1/2 hour goes by and the two that went south come up to the car from the NORTH side. They said they walked and walked, could hear the trucks on the highway and next thing ya know, they walk up on the car.

They had to go over a fence to head south, come back over it and the road and the next fence yet they said they only went over the one barb wire fence.

The other two guys that went back towards the house to the east, came walking through the snow from the west.

During all of this the screaming continued from the house they thought they were walking towards.

So while all of us are in the car we hear a tractor coming from where we first hit the snow. I am looking at a guy in my mirror walking up with a chain who motions to me to stay in the car. We all hear him hook the chain on the back of the car and we see him walk back toward his tractor...but the tractor would be nearly 1/2 mile away!

All of a sudden the car is getting dragged backwards...and then it stopped. I got out to unhook the chain and help the old guy put all this chain back and NOBODY was there. FREAKY

We turned the car around and went back to the highway...the old house was right near the corner and we looked at it and it was abandoned...no tracks, no tractor either....no power or lights.

I don't think we said one word on the way back to the city and the next day we told a few folks from the lake about it and they had heard weird things have happened out on that road before.

Of course we had to go back. 5 carloads of us went...sat in the yard, drinking beers waiting for the scary stuff to happen. Nothing happened but as we drove out of the yard, several of us saw the upstairs window lit up.

OK, your guys get the story first...

About 22 years ago, I was going through a divorce. Everything was ok, but my emotions were pretty tore up.

I was dreaming, but in my dream I could feel myself floating over the bed. I could look down and see myself. Surrounding the bed were figures looking at my sleeping form. No figure was completely clear, but on one side of the bed I could see dark shapes. On the other, were very much lighter shapes.

Don't think I'll ever forget that one. Don't want it again either.

I saw a ghost once...

Back when I was about 12 or so, maybe ten, I lived in a house that was once occupied by an old woodworker... He had died in the house right before we moved in, and his family left his shop (4 car garage size) half full of all kinds of cool carvings and such. He was a quite prolific carver, obviously spent a lot of his time out there.

Anyways, the back door to that house exited from the kitchen had a spring-actuated screen door... And anybody whose ever had a spring-actuated screen door can testify that the sound they make is highly recognizable.

So I was sleeping in my room, kind of in that half-awake half-asleep state of mind of the early morning, when I heard the screen door shut. I think it was a Saturday, and it was much earlier than when my family usually started to wake up. So with my curiousity peaked, expecting to see my mother doing something outside, I got up and walked to the kitchen. (I was a kid- remember when it was fun to get up on a Saturday? ) I first noticed the clock on the stove, and the time was 6:00 AM exactly. Then I looked out the window and I say a transluscent, spectral figure of a man walking in a straight line from the screen door to the garage door.

A few things really stood out as I watched the figure walk from the screen door to the garage. The first was his step- usually you would think that ghosts would kind of float, but the gait that this one possessed was so natural that it seemed abnormal, although I don't quite know why... Second of all was the fact that it was walking in a straight line towards the garage- the sidewalk that we had from the kitchen curved slightly around a swimming pool. But eerily enough, as I watched this ghost with an incredibly natural walk he ignored the curve of the sidewalk and stepped on the pool itself, all the while maintaining a sureness of foot that seemed "living"... It must of been the contrast between the figure's natural step and the impossibility of walking on water, but it enraptured me in a kind of horrorifying placidity that I could not escape from (although I do not know if I would have wanted to) until the figure, finally reaching the garage, suddenly turned a straight to the right and walked straight through the garage door... (I admit that it was odd that the ghost operated the screen door but walked through the garage door...)

The whole experience lasted about 1 minute. Later that day my mother asked me what I was doing up that morning, so I know that it wasn't entirely a dream. Furthermore she had asked if I had walked outside, for she too had heard the screen door slam shut; but I had not. Perhaps it was the wind, although I do not remember that day being particulary windy.

As the years go by my doubts regarding what I saw that morning compound. I have always been known to sleepwalk, and the strange combination of realism and impossibility, detail and indistinctness that I felt then was rather similar to a dream. And so, perhaps I was dreaming while sleepwalking. But despite my doubts to what I witnessed, I do recall that 10 years ago my memories of the naturally walking figure were many times more vivid then they are know...

Y'all ever been hunting where you know there is an Indian burial ground, and had a "wierd" feeling there after dark? There is a burial ground behind my house, where I deer hunt, and sometimes I do get weird feelings.

I beleive that he spirits of our elders and those who went before us can sometimes visit. I am a Quahna Parker descendant, and when my sister got married it was in Quahna's house right outside Ft Sill, called Star House, in Eagles Nest Park.
Quahna spent his last years almost bedridden with arthritis, and so his bed was sit up in the first floor parlor where he coudl receive visitors.
Jim and Mary got married in the front hallway( big roomy area) and all the kids were sitting on Quahna's bed watching, I was standing beside it video taping.
My grandfather went outside, and began calling to Quahna in comanche, telling him to come watch his daughter being married and to bless her.
Suddenly the room got freezing cold, and two of the kids were thrown off the bed. The rest jumped off, and said it had suddenly turned to ice, and was too cold to stay sitting on. You could feel something was there, but couldnt see anything. It stayed like that until the preacher finished and then just quit.
Afterwards, we watched the tape from mine and two others who had been taping. All three cameras went blank at the exact same instant that Quahna had come to watch, and didnt start recording again untill he had left, again all three started at the same instant, with just a fuzzy picture during the time he was there.
I have seen my ancestors during NA church meetings and while praying....and felt them dancing with me at hey-ya's

what in the world are your preachers teaching you folks? when a person dies they die. look at genesis 3:19, ecclesiasties 9:5,6 psalms 146:3-4, ezekiel 18:4, isaiah 26:14.
psychology today jan.1981 states "when physical prowess is at its lowest ebb, as under anesthesia, or the result of disease or injury, automatic control of bodily functions diminishes accordingly. thus, the neurohormones and catecholamines of the nervous system are released and pour out in uncontrolled quantity. the result among other manifestations, is the hallucination, rationalized after returning to consciousness, of having died and returned to life.
realize too that the world is getting worse by the day. all of you are aware of unseen wicked forces that have been alive longer than us and have studied us and even our relatives that have died. it would be a simple thing for them to fool a person into thinking that their loved one has passed on into another life form. btw if a relative passes into another life form, why in the world does it hurt so much at the loss. if they are still alive why cry? instead death stings us like no other pain. it is a "loss" not simply passing on to another life form.
thanx for reading. im off my podium now

Ghosts? Darn right I believe in ghosts. And if it weren't for them, you could pretty much guarantee I wouldn't be right here right now. Yall might think I'm crazy but I talked to my grandpa the other night. The man has been dead for 14 or so years. I've never felt more relaxed in my life. I've heard so many things and experienced so many things that I definately believe in ghosts.

The house we sold last year was nearly 150 years old. There were so many strange noises that we got used to it. My wife and I saw shadows and caught glimpses of movement many times. The door opening sound was a daily thing. There were only 3 times when something scared us a little.

1. I was on the internet late one night after work in our office which was next to our bedroom. I was convinced that I heard my wife get out of bed and that she had come into the room and was standing right behind me. I started to ask her if she was ok as I turned around to face her and saw that no one was there. I checked on my wife and she was soundly sleeping.

2. My wife and I were in the kitchen downstairs and heard a loud crash. We looked around the entire house and found a vase shattered on the upstairs bathroom floor. There is no reason why the vase would just fly off the shelf and shatter across the floor. It looked like it had been thrown at an angle with alot of force.

3. I jumped out of bed at 3:00am after hearing a very loud crash. I thought someone was trying to break into the house. My wife woke up also. I cleared the house only to discover a cookie sheet laying in the center of the kitchen floor. The cookie sheet had been in a dish drainer on the counter for 24+ hours.

We believed that something was going on in that house but we did not think that it ment us any harm. It was mostly attention-getting mischief. Neither of us ever thought about ghosts until we moved into that house. We even said goodbye the day we moved out...

i read the Bible, and I believe in God, but He's done more than put us on the 3rd rock all alone. J Vernon McGee extrapolated some verses in Daniel to prove that God does not administrate the day-to-day operations of this world, but has 'intelligent administrative assistants' (forgot exact wording) that control our world.

"Mark 5:9 - And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many."

so there's more here than we can see, just like the 'Legion' (a Roman legion = 2000 soldiers), none of the disciples saw the over ~2k demons go from the dude into the pigs.

"Matthew 8:31 - So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine."

we used to live in a house where "a pirate stood by the bed and tried to hand me a book" my wife would say, this happened 2~3 times while i was on SSBN patrol. maybe it was bad food/dream.

but then the movie "ghost" came out, and this lady would come watch it with us.
you could smell her overpowering perfume, brand was 'Charlie' was popular back when folks wore it strong. she watched it with us ~3 times.
kinda soothing when she was there, like she was one of our ancestors?

I had a similar experience to Top's friend. I was living with my girlfriend at the time, and I woke up EXACTLY at 1200 midnight. I could sense someone watching me from near the window. It was on my side of the bed. I was overcome with a tingling sensation all over my body, and I could not move- AT ALL! The only thing I could do was move my eyes. It felt like it lasted a long time, but when it was over, the clock still said 1200.

I just remembered another one...

We were all sound asleep upstairs. I get awakened by my mother yelling for my dad.
We all jump out of our beds and run downstairs to see each and every pot, pan, glass, plate...you name it...everything that was in the cupboards was laid out all nice and neat on the floor. That would take some special skills to not make any noise especially how it was laid out.
Then, outside my dads brand new Olds 98 was now in the middle of the driveway with all four doors open and the floor mats on either side with the SEATS out of the car as well.

Our neighbors also had strange experiences that night.

The neighbors across the street awoke to all their laundry off the clothes line folded on their picnic table.

The ones to our right had all their flowers cut and put in two clay pots in the middle of their lawn and the folks to the left of us found their Pekinese dog in the shed and it NEVER goes out without them.

Then there was the time a whispering but shuddering voice called out my name from outside the house...Never could figure that one out.

As for a preacher...or what they preached; Our pastor lived on the same street and related to his own spiritual experience that put him in his profession and changed his life. He never doubted anyone's Divine Interventions or experiences.

Afterall, God [and other things] does/do work in mysterious ways.
I believe that is why I am still alive today.

Marine,

I think what you and Top's buddy experienced is called "Sleep Paralysis". I suffer from it and it is one horrible experience.

You wake up from sleep, you are paralyzed, you can hear and are aware of everything going on around you. sometimes there is a heavy weight on your chest, tingling sensations, feelings of eminent danger, a feeling of evil presence around you, sometimes it even feels like you travel into other rooms.
The old timers called this "The old Hag", they thought a witch was sitting on their chest.
Some people think this is the precursor to "Astral Projection".

All I know is that it is indeed terrifying.
