Do I need a passport
Planning on going to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Do I need the use of a passport? I know the criteria and policies have changed dramatically. It is called the "U.S. Virgin Islands". Anyone with knowledge?
Thanks

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Get a passport!
All my American friends tell me that a passport is mandatory for proper ID any time they go back to the continental US. A US drivers license or even a US birth certificate no longer cuts it.

We just returned from a Hawaiian cruise.
Although Hawaii is US soil, the ship we were on is part of the Norwegian Cruise line.
We were informed that being it was a foreign ship,it is foreign soil, and we would need a passport.
After securing the passport, we discovered that the ship we were going on was registered in the U.S., Not Nowegian, and we didnt need the passport.
We now have them in case we do travel outside the USA.
I would be on the safe side and get one.

I would suggest you get a passport. Even if you do not need it, a passport is THE best form of identification. It is better for a multitude of reasons, but the most important one is that you will not need to provide any other form of identification using other numbers that could lead to identity theft.
I look for ALL people/Americans to be required to obtain a passport in the near future. One of the things Homeland Security is pushing for regarding identification IS the mandatory possession of a passport by all our citizens. It IS already our national ID system but has never been enforced as such. That is soon to change.

a passport is something everyone should have.
actually, get two.
I have been using mine quite regularly lately. besides, it makes checking in for a flight a smoother process.

I lived there about a year and a half ago and they used to swipe my passport whenever I left to go back into the US. I don't think it was mandatory then but I believe it is now.
