That would be the best benefit of DirectTV TIVO over Dish PVR.

Dual Tuner!

The Dish PVR only has one tuner, so you can only record the show you are watching.
No watching one show and recording another, let alone recording two shows at the same time.
And you are limited to recording only off satelite, not sure if the DirectTV TIVO lets you record a program off "air" or antenna.

You can however, watch a recorded show while recording another with the PVR.

I don't think Hoss has Comcast like me. It's slow to change and the quality of the lower channels is terrible. They have been out three times and can't fix it. I have Direct TV at my place in the country and have no problem other then a temporary breakup when if first starts to rain hard. Now if you want to talk about the local power company........their extension cord comes unplugged quite often!

Hey phox. Yes, you can setup the system to recognize terrestrial broadcasts and integrate them into the receiver. But I get the Boston spot beam from the satellite because I live too far out in the boonies to get a good signal. It's an extra 5 bucks a month, but it's chump change when you consider the quality of the picture.

I sure wish satellite would get their act together for an ISP on the go. DIRECT PC has a kitten if you suggest you want to put the antenna on your RV. And to go the "expensive one" is ludicrous unless you are a full timer and their service is not so good, either. At least with cable you can have good phone long distance/video connections without the delay of the satellite connection. And the picture is good for HD TV, no doubt. Just too expensive. Well, on second thought, so is diesel but I'm still driving.

Actually, I do have Comcast, but we've always had a great picture and we've never had any problems otherwise. Not only that, but you can't beat $11.64 a month for over 40 channels...including all the local ones, ESPN and ESPN II, Fox Sports Southwest, all those kids channels (Disney, Nickelodeon, etc.) and several other channels that we watch.

I don't know anything about the strength of my signal on Dish Network. The picture was always great when it worked, but I didn't like the delay it had in coming up and I didn't like that we lost our picture when heavy thunderstorms came through. The plane thing was because we live under the approach for DFW airport. The main thing I didn't like was the price. I think it was $49.99 a month for less channels (that we actually watch) than we have with cable for $11.64 (with tax).

Jack, I think MTV is one of the channels owned by Viacom. They were negotiating a new deal with Dish and reached a bitter stalemate, so Dish removed all the Viacom channels. It lasted for a few days.

Remember when MTV showed video's instead of the ??? they show now?

Same thing with DISH, $5.00 more a month for the local channels.
I can get them great with my rooftop antenna, but I opted to pay the additional so I could record them on the PVR, do the "pause live TV" thing and such, much better picture and sound than VHS.

Regarding the Viacom/Dish fun of late, yes, MTV is one of the stations affected by the stalemate they had last week, as well as Nickelodeon, VH1, a couple more "basic" cable channels and about 20 local CBS stations.
The TV station I work at is owned by CBS, thus owned by Viacom, and we were taken of DISH as well.
The only good to come of it for us was we found out there are a lot more DISH subscribers that rely on satellite to see our signal than we previously thought.
Phones rang non stop all day and all night.

I see the same thing happening with DirectTV as well as Cable when their contracts come up for renogiation.
More Broadcast conglomerates might get ideas from what Viacom did.
Watching both companies stocks, neither was affected by it much, DISH actually went up during the two days the Viacom stations went missing.

Well, I was pretty much down on cable before I moved here. After we moved we couldn't get reception worth a flip. Lots of ghosting. very poor audio and poor customer service. After multiple phone calls they finally came out and said it was my tv. So, I pulled out the brand new TV we were getting ready to put in the camper and it did the same thing. The guy just left...

Over 40 channels for 11.95? You must have cable competition there.

The best benefit of all? Getting to go camping wherever I want and still catching the college games. Before everyone flames me and says that isn't the point of going camping, I know. But, it is college football after all and there is nothing finer than watching the aggies get thrown in jail...I mean Tennessee football.

Yep, I hate MTV now. I would have bought Dish Network just based on principle if they kept them off permanently.

I personally would like to thank all of you for your input. It helped me a great deal. I took all the positive and negative results and looked at everything very carefully. When the sales person called me back yesterday, as I reported. I was upset. Then about 1830hrs (my time) last night the sales manager called me to find out what went wrong. After I politly told him my thoughts on the cost vs the cost of cable that I was currently paying, they offered to install Dish Network for me with 4 rooms, one of those being the DVR reciever, for the cost that was quoted to me in the beginning. $54.99/mo. which includes their top 120 listing, 4-rooms, 1-DVR and the install. This will save me over $18.00/mo that I now pay the cable company.

Ooo ya! See, ya held out and they blinked first! That's great news. Hope you have as much fun as I. BTW, the music channels are great too. No commercials, no DJ, just music from the genre you select. And because it's not compressed to comply with the FM bandwidth, you'll hear near CD quality sound. So hope you have a sound system nearby.

No kidding. They were doing some kind of promotion when I signed up. You got the Standard Plus service (regular $30 or something like that) for the BASIC price.....which I think is $10.75 plus tax or something around there. Basic normally would only include the local channels and maybe a few more.

Well at home i have Direct TV and love it. At school i have Cable One Cable, Only thing that i dont like about Direct TV is they dont carry The WB, watch that quite a bit haha. But my direct tv at home gives me the "everything" package, all the locals, HBOS CINEMAX Showtimes all the discoverys and everything with Internet for 89.99 a month, Compared to my Cable one, its "digital"cable but nothing digital about it. I have a HDTV and Regular cable looks the same, i just have a fancy box haha. But i get the regular cable, (Local channels and then some, but none of the movie channels, just the WGN TBS SPIKE TV stuff like that) and internet for 102 a month, just had a price hike, SOOOO Ill live with the few signal losses I had

Anyone remember PrimeStar? Direct Tv bought them out. We started with Primestar, they were actually one of the first ( Small home dish) people. Great service. Never lost that signal once. In any form. Direct TV came out and put some button on tarp over our dish to solve the rain problem Kinda helped. but oh well.
