I am not sure what the difference is between the two besides the 10 meter being a little more expensive, but i figure someone on here probably does. If someone could explain what the difference between the two are and which one is better, that would be great, thanks

 

A 10 meter radio requires an amateur (ham) radio license to operate. CB is technically 11 meters and requires no license. You should really stay away from the 10 meter radio if you have no license. The FCC frowns on unlicensed transmissions.

CB is "supposed" to be limited to 5 watts into the final. Not so with the ham rig - - there are some pretty powerful rigs out there reaching 1/2 way around the world. Most 10 meter ham rigs that I am familiar with can be tuned into the CB bands, but should not run with more than the five watts.

 

thanks for the replies, i guess what i was wondering is can a 10 meter radio be used as a cb, do they use the same frequency as a cb radio? Is a 10 meter radio just a more powerful cb radio? Thanks again

 

from what I know of it 10 meters have to be 'adjusted' to talk on cb they're not the same frequency I have one the does both

 

The 11 Meter(s) in Citizen Band and 10 Meter(s) in Amateur Radio are actually the Wavelength of the transmitted and received signal they are referring to,
Down near the bottom of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Most 10 meter rigs can be tuned to 11 meters but is not legal in the USA but not sure about other neighboring countries.

10 meter radios being used on the 11 meter band is illegal. They are more powerful than a CB radio. However, it shouldn't matter since you'll never use a 10m radio on that band.

 

Thanks for the replies, that is what i wanted to know. The reason i asked was because my buddies father in law has a galaxy cb radio in his truck and he said that it would swing 25 watts and it was all stock, so i got to lookin around on the internet and found that these 10 meter radio would swing that much power stock, but i could not figure out how he was using it as a cb. He must have something done to it. Thanks again.

 

You can illegally have your CB tuned to the 10 meter band, they are differant frequencies. You will blast out everyone close and get out 15-20 miles but not be able to hear anyone far away unless they also have an illegel tuned 10 meter.
Best to just get a good quality CB and have it tuned for peak performance. I have a good CB and can usually get out twice as far as cheap CB. I also have a good antenna to help recieve distance signals.

I see he has a Galaxy CB, some of them also have SSB channels, they use 40 upper or lower waves of the CB band and can put out 25 watts. Only good if you have someone else on SSB to talk to.
