I don't personally know a lot about it, but I've heard that Wyotech is an excellent diesel mechanics school. Check out their website at www.wyotech.com

Would yall think it would be wise to be a Diesel Mechanic when I get out of High School and College? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Its always a pretty good idea to get a trade before going to University or College, I wish I would have done it that way. Then, if things at school dont work out or you dont like University life - you have something to fall back on, OR can make really good money during the summer break. Ive done both and can say that I've learned far more from working in Technical Trades, than any text book could ever teach.

The only problem I see with going the diesel mechanic route is the substantial investment in tools. Good Tools at cheap and you generally need some big stuff for the diesel's.

Things for you to ask yourself.
1 What am I good at?
2 Do I like working with my hands and smelling like diesel? You will have to be good with your hands and you are going to get dirty.
3 Check around and see what the going pay for a mechanic is. Will it be enough for the lifestyle you want? Maybe you can look into running your own shop. There are never enough good reliable honest shops.
4 Will this be what you want to do every day? What seems like fun today can get boring tomorrow.

If you answer yes to these then yes we need good Diesel Mechanics for our rams.
At your age there is no limit to what you can do. It will all come down to what will make you happy. ;D
Good Luck

Re:Diesel Mechanic project

Yeah im currently going to Western Iowa Tech, for diesel Mechanics. And i believe it would be a great trade( obviously since im going into it) and it has many routes. As me for example. Can be just a mechanic, or go into the mechanical Design and specialize in diesel/ heavy Equipment Or you can open your own shop ( as id like to do in a few years maybe find a partner? haha) Or you can get into custom shops or performance parts. Its all there
