yeah, i heard about that on the radio this morning. i also heard that an 11 year-old girl was driving a trailer truck with her brother and her dad sleeping in the sleeper. this all happened in texas... the truck hit a guard rail and went off the side. the 3 burned to death. i haven't seen anything else on it, just heard it on the radio this morning.

Tom

I really gotta admire that dude's willpower... I can't imagine doing something like that. That man must have some you-know-what's of steel.

Okay, you're already out hiking, then you have your arm crushed and trapped, then you run out of water, then you cut it off, then you rappel down a mountain one-handed, then you hike 7 miles - then you get picked up and you're basically okay (outside of dehydration and blood loss). If it were me, I'd've been hurting at the hiking stage, and probably dead at the crushed and trapped stage. Sheesh!

He had surgery today to clean everything up, and prep
(don't want to call it this, but what do you call it)
the stump for a prosthetic arm.

Supposedely, he's still planning on climbing Mt. McInnley sometime this year.

We've been reporting on his progress, since it happened in Utah (we being the TV station I work at).

Re:Did You Guy's Hear About This???

This has been heavily reported here in Denver. There was an article in the paper with numerous emails that were sent to somewhere saying he was a hero and all that. Now no doubt this guy has hair on his rear that drags the ground right next to his #alls of steel but I did find one interesting email quoted. It asked why the hell he was doing what he was doing alone. A major no no. If you have ever been to the Maze District of the Canyonlands it is a very remote area. A freak accident for sure but reinforces the idea of safety and following the rules of the sport for safety's sake. I hope that if something ever happens like that to me I have the fortitude to do something like that. Am glad it turned out relatively well for him and sounds like it will be a minor impediment for this guy in the future. Sounds like a guy who will live his life to the fullest regardless of the situation.

Speaking of freak accidents a guy was fly fishing here with a buddy up in Thompson Canyon a few weeks ago and a 600lb boulder fell off the canyon wall and landed right on him. Flattened him.
