Deer Hunting Score

Well, got back from a weekend of deer hunting at the lease and was able to score a 140# doe on the last day of doe season yesterday. Have my sights on 4 different 10 pointers that have wandered by my gamecam in the last couple of weeks. I almost had a 200# piggy Saturday afternoon but my old trusty 30-30 was only able to roll her over twice and I could not find a trail where she jumped up and ran to. I gave it 1 hour worth of searching along a creek bottom thicket but could find no sign. Thats OK.... We are covered up with pigs to the point that in one of my gamecam pics I counted over 32 pigs in one photo eating under my feeder. Gonna spend the rest of my weekends in December in the woods trying to fill my freezer.

10 Pointers!! LoL, I don't hang out in the right areas.
If I saw a 10 pointer I probably wouldn't be able to hit it I would be hyperventilating so bad.
Even when I lived in Texas I don't remember seeing anything bigger than a six pointer.
Mmmmm, free pig sounds good though.

My bro in law and I were scouting one year prior to the season and just as the sun was setting spotted this big whitetail on top of this ridge under a apple tree. We watched him for about 15 minutes with binoculars and counted 14 points on him, he was a real beauty.

About 20 mins later after hitting a dead end we started to back out and out of the corner of my eye I saw movement below in a swampy area, I got my bro in law to stop and we saw the BIGGEST whitetail deer I have ever seen trying to hide in the brush.

He made the 14 point look like a baby he was so big and we could see his muscles rippling under his skin as he tried to stand perfectly still not sure if we could see him or not.

His rack was a huge basket and even though he was only about 40 yds away we could not get an accurate count on his antlers because of all the bare branches behind his head. Best count I came up with was 21 points but it was at best a guess......

He was a smart old fellow and had we not been backing up we never would have seen him trying to sneak off as he never moved while we were sitting still.

Man to see that one in the scope would sure be a real treat.!

Than there is the dark side. I am sure you guys have seen the pictures from some of the outfits who are breeding deer for antlers.
That one with 88 scoreable points looks terrible.

Nothing but small stuff around my place this year. So far, noting taken. My Grandson wants to get the old Hawken out next weekend, so then maybe...

Biggest anyone has taken is an 8 point, about 130 lbs. I do miss the muleys i grew up with. Back then it was like, Hmm, I'll take that one.

Those mule deer make the deer I have gotten look pretty small.
I don't like cow liver but love deer liver and heart esp if we cook it at camp.

I had something similar happen to me about 20 years ago. Had a brand new chevy extended cab and a 12 point buck came out of no where, punched a hole right behind the front tire and proceeded to demo the rest of the drivers side. Knocked me into a ditch and the woman in the car behind me came up, wide eyed, and asked me if i was OK?? I asked her what in the crap hit me and she said that the biggest deer she had ever seen hit me and bounced back into the ditch from where it came out of. It was a 8 or 9 year old 12 pointer. I had it mounted after I tagged it and put a plaque under it that said... "Taken with a 350 double barrel" They totalled my truck......
