Crushed Truck!

Is it true that when they get done building the high horsepower, heavily modified NEW vehicles on television shows that they have to be crushed because of liability issues? I heard that someplace and couldt believe that they would'nt just be sold with a disclaimer of some sort. Anybody heard of this or able to confirm it?

If its modifications render it out of compliance with EPA, NHTSA, etc. certifications for the production models of that model year, then it can't be titled and must be crushed.

PPG used to have some really sweet modded trucks they used as show trucks on the car show circuits back home. They used to raffle them off until somebody killed themselves in one. They now crush them

Well most of the modifications featured on TV are within legal limits and sometimes they even brag that they wont void manufacturers warranties. So lets assume that is the case, there are no legal issues as far as EPA or the manufacturer. Why cant the person buying the vehicle sign a disclaimer acknowledging that the seller and manufacturer are not responsible for anything? Just seems like a major waste just to promote some relatively low cost products.

We used to buy Factory Hot Rod Mercedes back in the late 80's and early ninties.

Once the EPA figured out the engine would not pass, they put the brakes on those programs.

MBUSA will no longer do it. There were a few guys that figured out ways to get the cars dismantled and buy the things piece by piece. It is a pain.

The tuner guys @ AMG sold out to MB in 1999 and now you can go down and order a 604HP factory hot rod with a full warranty, good economy for the power level and have something that will give decades of service.

There was an episode of trucks a while back where they went threw and showed all the trucks that they had built over the years that went to the crusher. Just abought everything you can think of that Stacie built over the years was crushed. It wasent till the last 2 years or so of his run on the show that he put a halt to the crushing. Most vehicles you see all dressed up and fancy in advertisments and magazines end up crushed. Once they use them for a while in adds and shows they crush them. They are considered advertising and are not for sale.

alot of the trucks Stacey built were his own. my favorite one he did was the "big blaze" he ended up selling it and they guy who bought it took all the drivetrain and put it in his rock-crawler . the blazer ended up at a used-car lot with junkyard drivetrain and cherry paint

Why don't they part these things out instead of crushing them?
