Crazy trip stories
Well just being bored at work. Thought of an entertaining thread..possibly. About 4 years ago I and bunch of my buddies made a road trip to Norman Oaklahoma to pick up a 69 charger that one had bought off ebay. Did it in a day and half. I tell you, that was one crazy trip!!!
The two days seemed to meld together into one. We took the long way too, came down 5 to 10 then up through texas into oaklahoma and took 40 back. Should have taken 40 all the way!! It was awesome, a little crazy but awesome
. Anyone.......

Took a load of shingles down to N.O, LA. About 15k total with trailer and shingles. Did it in 16hrs, one way. The next day rested, then came back another 16hrs. Mountain Dew helped me, and I HATE that stuff!! I am 19, did all the driving. My bro came with but he doesn't have his license.
I loved it.

Diet Mountain Dew & Cappucino were my drink's of choice. Only stopped for gas and to drain liquids. I would drive down one week and back home the next. I did it for about 7 years. Now I just travel once a month, but it's 8,715mi. one way.
I picked up my truck in San Antonio, Texas around 4:00 on a Friday afternoon. Got home to the Philly area (1,700 miles or so) by 11:30 Sunday morning. Drove 'till I was sleepy, slept 'till I woke up and drove some more. After picking the truck up Friday I was so pumped I drove until about 3 AM Saturday morning.
'nother one: When I was a kid, we lived in the Chicago area and my grandparents lived near Philly (roughly 13 hours straight through). One Christmas (not long after I finished high school) we were going to drive out to Philly to visit my grandparents, but my Dad had to fly out to New Jersey on business earlier. So the plan was that me and my mom would drive out with my two little sisters. We hopped in the minivan early in the morning and I drove the first leg. Mom fell asleep within the first 15 minutes, she was wore out from getting ready for the trip. Throughout the rest of the trip, every hour or so she would wake up and ask "Do you want me to drive?", then in 5 minutes she'd be snoring again.
Uh, no thanks, Mom. I drove the whole way, Mountain Dew and coffee kept me awake but I sure wasn't in peak form by the end. Sleepy and jumpy ain't a good combination.

Forgot to add this one, straight shot my dad and I trading off made it home from Whistler B.C. to home in 23 hrs and some change. That was an intense drive for sure but was sweet when we pulled in the driveway and saw we made it in under a day!!!
my dad and his nephew both left the marine corps at the same time in 1980, my dads sister is 20 years older so that is why he is the same age as his nephew, anyways, they left 29 stumps marine corps base and drove straight through to ohio with no sleep in my dads 72 camaro. ive got the 1000 mile trip to my dads house in florida so memorized i could probably do it blind, i got up at 7 am, went to class, drove to columbus airport, flew to florida, got there at 11 pm and at 3:30 pm the next day i was heading back to ohio in my dodge. me and my buddy did that drive in 2006 in 15 hours, i did it by myself in 15 hours in 2005. my buddies get lost if they leave the county, i dont have a problem driving across the country. also drove from my house to 45 minutes southeast of chicago and back in one day to pick up a 78 ford bronco, i took the long way up too going through lima and up 30 and came back 65 to 70. coming back from florida one time with my dads girlfriend, she started driving south of chattanooga TN, well after i woke up and realized we was like 50 miles in the wrong direction i had to navigate our way across the middle of tennessee and kentucky, wow that was fun.
My best is after working a 12 hr shift and being up for 20 hrs straight I had to go to Evansville, IN for work from Carbondale, IL. Went to Evansville worked 8 hrs, and drove back to C-dale. Then loaded up my truck with a friends fridge and stove and drove to Vandialla, IL to unload then home to Teutopolis, IL. When I got home I had been up for 48 hrs straight, driving for about 6 hrs of that and working for 24 hrs of that. That is the longest to date. Fastest is from Marion, IL to Teutopolis, IL in 55 min. You can google it and figure it out, lets just say my 01 did not shut down.
Coming back from San Diego for my 10th HS reunion I drove almost straight thru to B'ham but had to stop in Mt. Vernon McDonalds and sleep. 20 minutes from home and I was seeing things on the hood. Near Shasta, CA I put an entire pack of bubble gum in my mouth to see if I could chew it all and succeeded. Entertained a mini van load of kids by sticking corn nuts in the gum as teeth and smiling at them as we passed each other. The kid's loved it but the Mom kept giving me dirty looks and finally yelled at me to knock it off.

I drove roughly 12 hours straight only stopping for fuel, food and bathroom breaks. Now this was NO ordinary 12 hour trip, normally it should have taken 7-8 hours but it was winter, the main highway turned into ice about 1.5 hours into the trip. Scared the crap out of me since I had about 2200lbs of snowmobiles, gear, food and my dad and I on the truck, so I got off the highway and ended up driving forever on some gravel roads. It went like this "Are we headed south? Ok we are, keep going until you hit this (dad pointing on a map) highway".
Ok so its starting to get dark, no problem, highway is clear around Cochrane, AB but looking towards Banff, its getting nasty and boy did it ever. For those of you who have had the not so nice drive of the transcanada highway from Banff to Revelstoke, its a nightmare. Its a narrow, very windy road with a lot of big rigs haulin' butt. To make matters worse, its really snowing hard now. The extra weight on the sled deck helped with traction but it was still white knuckle extreme driving.
Finally get into our hotel in Revelstoke and not two days later, my dad injured himself on the snowmobile. Ended up going home early, in the daylight, and the roads were clear thank the Lord. Now we were supposed to meet with some friends in Revelstoke and ride together but since our trip was cut short, we didn't meet them. It turns out the day after we left, a huge snow storm triggered several avalanches that covered the highway and in turn making their holiday a little longer (although my buddy said the 3.5 feet of fresh powder was hard to complain about
