Great info guys!

I went through all the components on the board that are connected to the case and ports, and disconnected them one at a time and the beeper never went off. Even with just the monitor and keyboard connected. I've had the beep on new systems before, but this is the first time I haven't been able to isolate the problem.
Based on the info posted by bulabua, I'm beginning to think I have a bad board. This is the first refurbished board I have used, and it will be the last! Back to Microcenter this morning.

crobtex, go to yahoo or google and type in "beep codes"; you'll find all kinds of info, and hopefully some more detailed guidance on where to look.

The list depends on the type of bios. Pheonix and award have different codes.

I'm assuming that you shut off the computer before you removed each item then rebooted afterwards? You can't just pull cards while power is going to the board. The error is still registered and needs to be cleared. And in some instances you can destroy your cards like that.

My board has plugs for the CPU fan, and 2 case fans, if there is no fan plugged in it beeps, if one is plugged in and fails, it beeps,
if the CPU fan fails, the computer shuts itself off.

I lost one case fan, and had to replace it.
It had a 3 prong plug, computer place wanted 5 bucks for 2 prong fans, 20 bucks for 3 prong fans, I got the 2 prong, thinking it didn't make a difference.

I had to switch fans around till all 3 plugs in the mother board had functioning 3 prong fans plugged into them.

Thanks again for the ideas.

Yes, I unplugged the power before removing parts.
The board had plenty of 3 pin connectors for the fans.

I took the refurb board back and got another good board, but without as many bells and whistles. Hooked everything up, and no monitor. While checking all the connections, I put the HD to my ear to see if it was running, and the speed was occulting. About the time I thought power supply.....BAM, very thing went off! Blew the fuse in a 350 watt ps. Since this was a new ps that I put in a few months ago, and I've never had a problem with a ps, it never crossed my mind to check it. This is probably what my problem has been all along. Off to get a new ps today and try it again.

Thanks again for the ideas.

Well, I fooled with the new mb for two days and got tired of trying to get a hard drive to format correctly, so I just went and bought a new Compaq. For my use, it was the best buy (at Best Buy) for the $$$. It cost me $20 dollars then the next cheapest place and I got a 17" crt monitor and an HP printer with it. Not a bad little unit, AMD Athelon 64 3500, 1 gig ram, and 200 gig hd. Since this is the first "store bought" pc I've had since 1991, I didn't realize how much junk software came on them!

I'll put the old parts in a box for awhile and the get it to going one day when I get bored.

Thanks for all the help.
