LOST STEERING...CRASHED TRUCK

Are there any reports of steering linkage, ect. failing or breaking. Any recalls? Was traveling at maybe 50mph when all the sudden, NO STEERING. Truck drifted to the right, half on road, half in ditch. Hit a culvert with right front wheel. Ripped out entire front end. Differential and all steering components including steering box shaft where pitman arm was attached. Hurt my buddy pretty bad. Any info would be helpful. Also, need info on upgraded front components, including close ratio steering box & the arms from the frame to the differential, & track bar, stabelizer bar, ect... > :'(

Re:LOST STEERING...CRASHED TRUCK

Did you have any kind or warning or a clunking in the front end? Reason I ask is my truck suddenly developed a weird thumping like someone was banging a board against the floorboards...but I cannot find anything except that there is a couple of pieces that are real loose on the front of the truck...the bar that the steering stabalizer is attached to can be moved very easy up and down...when I make it go as far as it can up or down I get the thud sound. Its all loose under there but the truck steers fine and no pulling to left or right...tracks down the road real straight.

Hope everyone does ok and I too am looking for better aftermarket front end components.

Bad Habit: I hope your buddy will recover soon and completely.

About the clunking: I had it on mine, it was the steering knuckles. It would not move with the truck standing on it , but with the wheel lifted you could see the play. I had been hunting U-joints etc for the clunk ...

AlpineRAM

Re:LOST STEERING...CRASHED TRUCK

Sounds like what BAD HABIT and AlpineRam are describing is what is wrong with my truck. Its at the dealers now and they are going to check and diagnose it once the 6 spd is back together. Then I will try and find better aftermarket front end components to beef it up more.
