Re:Controversial engine (& battery) subjects

I'm not sure, but the "not over 2000 rpm's" thing might be refering to the practice of not exceeding 2000 rpm's until the engine is at normal operating temp., which is a very common practice around here. Most of the guys that I talk with here, and elsewhere, pretty much work the heck out of their engines, and they run better for it.

I was going to mention about the chemical reaction thing on the rubber batteries but thought I was wrong. Would be the first time. :

I don't know if the battery thing is true or not but I've always put the batteries on a 2X6 when sitting on concrete & probably always will.

As for the break in I take it easy the first couple of thousand miles just to let everything get seated & drive it like I'm gonna use it.

Re:Controversial engine (& battery) subjects

New batteries now have a polypropolene case that does not let charge migration occur like the older cases of a different material.

About 15 years ago my Mom had a battery to crack the top of the case in a minor accident. Sat the cracked battery out behind the shop, on dirt, under the eave and forgot about it for about six months. Next time I needed a battery for something I grabbed it, thinking I would have to jump it - surprised - it cranked a motor that had been sitting a while long enough to get gas to the carb. Ran that battery for another year or so. It was a Douglas battery - can't hardly find them anymore but that was all I used to use.
