Computer Whizs please...

I'm having internet issues with my computer here at work. I have no problem visiting the sites I go to most like this one and a couple other truck sites. My problem, which started about two weeks ago, is that when I visit a new site or simply one that I don't visit all the time, I usually can't get the page to load or it will only load halfway. I'll see text telling me that there should be a picture loading but the text is there instead etc.... Now, One thing I noticed is that there is a little swirly timer that appears when a page is loading. Judging by this thing, none of the pages I visit ever seem to finish loading all the way or it takes several minutes before they finish. This happens even when a page looks like it is completely done loading. Anybody have an idea here? I have cleared my history, cleared my cookies, run Spybot, Run Adware, rebooted, and even Defragged. I don't know what else to do. I'm running Mozilla Firefox but I have the same problem when I switch over to MSN....

Do you have anti-virus or spy-ware software on the computer? Do you know when the last time it was updated? If it was updated within the last two weeks then that could be causing your computer's internet browsers to not allow the page to fully load, possibly if it has a lot of add's. Or, the java-script on cartain pages is loading slow because the server it's on (somewhere else in the world) is just a lot slower than the speed at which your browser is able to load it.

BTW, the computer works perfectly fine for any other application, even the company intranet. It's just that daggone internet that is giving me fits. Of course, I can't complain to the IT guy because he's the kind to give me a hard time when the stuff I'm having issues with is not work related........

One of the sites I'm having my issues with is E-Bay which works just fine on my computer at home. Also facebook, which I rarely visit, but tried it once...
I will check the anti-virus software to see if there were any changes. I can tell you that I turned it off briefly and still had the same issues...

Check the security selection and relax the setting a notch or the "cookies" section and allow for the PIA 3rd party cookies.

I've tried that and it is still the same. Doesn't it seem strange that one site loads lightening fast yet another, which I spend way too much time on too, will hardly load at all?

When my mac does it I clear the browser cache, or google the site because sometimes favorite shortcuts get corrupted.

That was my first thought 15 Digger. Google loads super fast and so do the results. No matter what I click on in the results though, they just won't load or after 5 minutes I get a half loaded page. I can go back to my e-mail site, DTR, CF, or a couple other truck sites and they load like normal. Anything else and it's like dial up only half as fast as 26K and never finishes.....

I appreciate everybody's replies. I've tried everything you guys have suggested though and it's still the same.....

Maybe it's a virus that my firewall and anti-virus programs did not catch....

You might consider downloading a different browser....like google chrome....

On the other hand-if you are having these issues while at work-then you company might be doing something on their end to throttle back the non work related internet surfing.

My old company put a stop to that kind of thing all together by installing this "net nanny" program....was no fun after that.

Guarantee you that someone is messing with blocking sites. Your IT guys is probably trying to stop streaming or image loads from less-desirable sites. What you can do is find a site you like but won't load. Open up IE (or whatever), go to Tools, Internet Options, Security, highlight Trusted Sites, click the Sites button, and see it you can add the sites URL. If your IT folks are nervous they have probably turned off your ability to add trusted sites. Give it a try and see what happens.

I think your IT guys have blocked the sites you are trying to get to. They probably don't know about DTR so it is running below the radar. Facebook and ebay are BIG time waisters for employees who are messing around at work. Try loading fox news, or the weather channel. If they work, that is the issue. If your work computer is a laptop, try taking it for lunch and go to mcdonalds, they have open wifi and you can log into the sites unobstructed. I would bet a beer that your company is blocking sites to keep everyone working though.

Nobody else in my office is having any issues like I am. I don't think it's the IT guy. He's not even in this office and he worries mostly about our intranet. I went to my error console after trying to load E-Bay just now. I got about 50 messages just like this.

Error: vjo is not defined
