Clamp On Meter, Whats the correct way to use it?
I just bought one of these at Lowes, to measure the current on my Christmas light displays outside. Theres no paperwork or instructions with it.
The jaws open, when I "clamp" the yellow jaws on a wire or extension cord, I only get .2 to .8 amps. If I move up to the plastic plug in, it registers 2 amps.
I did the math on my christmas lights. I should have about 10 amps flowing.
(c-9's)
Anyone have any good tips to measure amperage? Is there a better tool instead of this one?

you have to seperate the wires of the cord so you are only clamped around one conductor. the reading for total amperage is taken at the point where the cord feeding the whole load is pluged in.
