ASAP!! Leaking hose,,,wich clamp to use
I just went out to work on my APPS and found a puddle of anti-freeze under the truck. I had a busted heater hose,,the one that's on the same line as the one behind the turbo. I changed it out on the road. All I could come up with was a piece of heater hose that was not the exact size. The one on the truck is an odd ball. No near by dealer's had the right one in stock, and they are on back order. But I did manage to get one on the way home.
Geeze,,,now to the point.
I had to use bigger clamp's, the kind you use a screw driver on. It held for 500 mile's, now it's leaking. After putting the factory hose back on, should I trust the factory squeeze clamp's that I know people are having problem's with, or go with the after market srew tight clamp's. Is there a problem with using those or something. Thank's

Sorry to hear about more gremlins, RRJ. The best clamp that I've come across is a "fuel injection hose clamp" It's like a regular hose clamp on sterroids and applies equal pressure all the way around. That being said, I don't usually have those handy so 95% of my hose clamps on my truck are the screw type and I've never had a problem with them. The only drawback that I can think of with screw type is the little grooves it leaves in the hose, but I've never had an issue with that, nor do I ever expect to.
All things considered, I'd prefer the screw type over the spring style, and if you're super worried go to fuel injection clamps.

If you have a Silicone hose you should use the clamp that has a full band that covers the hose so it does not cut through the outer jacket.
Also supposedly the spring type clamp is better because it always exerts pressure to the hose and not what is just set by tightening the screw.
That said I am not sure what they use on later engines just what I know from working on heavy diesels.

Well it's too late now. I wasn't sure wich to use. It was 62 this morning and a cold rain front was moving in so I didn't have time to wait.
I had to finish in the pouring down rain. Hopefully I won't have any trouble with the screw type clamp. If so,,,,I'll still have the other's.
