Chrysler Models Expected To Be Killed

http://autos.aol.com/article/chrysler-fiat-plans

Personally I think the models that this article lists are exactly what Chrysler needs to purge. The Caravan is getting expensive and the "mini" van is going by the wayside and being replace by SUVs and crossovers. The PT Cruiser is old and still on the old Neon platform. The rest of the models on this list have been under performing in sales since day one. I just hope they don't kill more than this!

Good to see none of the other trucks are being killed tho I wonder what is going on with the Durango/Aspen?

Me thinks they might be in trouble - - no real new models until 2012. Wow, the world is coming to an end in 2012. Even chopping back on Jeep models. Notice the Charger is not in the group. Revamp of the 300. Sad.

Personally, though I may get rebuked for this - it's what has been needed for a long time.

Everyone has bad memories of '70 & early '80's Fiats in this country. But I have bad memories of '70's Volaries, '80's AMC-based Jeep products, '90's Shadow & Sundances, the Mitsubishi failure, and then the whole D-C debacle. Truth be told, with a few limited exceptions such as the Charger/300/Challenger/Magnum paltform, Chrysler just has not suceeded in recent times with Cars. Not corssovers, vans, SUV's. etc. They just haven't built a compotent car.

It would be a great time to go back to basics (and Fiat will help with this) and get two or three good products (Cars) down first, then build back up from there. For much more on anything to do with Fiat & Alfa's current products; check here: http://www.topgear.com/uk/

Do they really need a major redesign every other year to maintain sales? wouldn't it be better to just make a quality vehicle that you wont need to replace every other year?

I don't see why we as a society demand that they need to change them so often. Back in the 50s and 60s they changed them every year. Some of the best selling cars in the world didn't go through so many changes. Look at the
VW Beetle, Citron 2CV, the orginal FIAT 500, just to name a few. Even though they quit selling them in america they still made them till 1999. Even the new beetle hasn't really changed since 2000. It isn't the car companies fault, it's ours. We, as a society, can't be happy unless we have the latest and greatest, and for that reason the companies feel they have to update or change their proudcts on a regular basis. It dosen't just affect the car companies look at the shelf of kitchen appliances at wal-mart and compare them to just 10 years ago. I fear it wont get better until we learn to be content with what we have, if you want things to change you have to change.
