Daimler/Chrysler dumping Chrysler ?

D/C predicts the Chrysler group will lose over $1 billion in 2006 and is not ruling out selling Chrysler off . I read this in " Light and Medium Truck " magazine .

Schew. Could be the worst acquisition in automotive history. There is a study being done now to try to close the Newark DE assembly plant (the one Iococca and the State of DE bailed out once before)

Tough times I tell you, tough times.

The Mercedes side made a few Billion from what I read though, right?

And to think, DC is the better (least crappy?) out of the big three these past few years……….

The Chrysler car portion lost money this year. Dodge trucks are seperate in the report. Was a 1.6 Billion loss for the Chrysler section, however the whole company came out in the green. Unlike ford and chevy.

According to the biz section of the Dallas Morning News Gm and Ford actually made money over this time last year. And D/C was down 1.6%

So they should dump Chrysler and keep Dodge!

So, what happens to us if DC goes down the toilet? What about warranty repairs & that stuff? Not to mention the $$$ spent on extended plans.

The sky isn't falling. Now back in the late 70s/early 80s before Iacocca turned things around the sky was falling.

DCX stock is doing pretty good all things considered:

These days car companies don't just disappear- they merge. The parent company is on the hook to honor all warranty and replacement parts issues.

Numbers Game

Ive been told in the past that the way companies figure earnings is they plan say to make 5 billion this year and if they only make 4 they call it a 1 billion loss and not a 4 billion gain. If that is correct that just dont make sense to this old country boy.

No, I think that is pretty much correct.

Anyway, if they "dumped" the company, it would just get bought up by someone else anyway, not like it would just go away (as far as the warranties and all)

Nope, earnings are pretty much actual revenue minus actual cost. Projections and forecasts don't enter into it.

I think that the reason Mercedes makes profits is because just about all of the taxi's in places overseas like the Netherlands are Mercedes, Big truck market over there as well.

you become your own warranty station and you can bomb away, and not worry if this or that voids warranties

If they sale it off, it will be due to the fact that Dr. Z sucks, and nobody likes him, which made him mad, so now he want to sale off the American part of the company.
