Pull the steering wheel, turn signal and cruise levers, and the turn signal cam. You will gain access to the tumbler. If I remember right there is a screw that holds the tumbler in. The turn signal cam is the worst part of the whole deal, and even it isn't bad. If you have a digi camera, take pics before you disassemble. You can do it!

On my 76 I had to take the steering wheel off and use a long screwdriver or punch to knock out a piece of the pot metal casting down inside the column to gain access to the spring loaded button on the tumbler. The piece is down in a hole that goes nearly to the tumbler. It is just a very thin layer of pot metal covering the bottom of the hole. It is designed to be broken out according to the dealer mechanic I talked to when I did mine. The instructions with the new lock even showed doing it. It was very easy to do and the lock came right out when I pushed on the retaining button.

Give a locksmith a call to get a price, years ago in 70 chevelle key got stuck and couldn't turn ignition. He came and did the work and installed what he said was better ignition switch (Medico) I think and it was $75 then. Not worth trying it myself. Just a thought, not sure of cost now.

This amazes me that someone would do this to their own car.
Most of the Chevy lock cylinders that I have seen have been popped out with a slide hammer, Chevy's were the easiest to steal.

ok well i got it fixed. No i didn't use the screwdriver. A guy i know was letting me store it at his yard and then decided he didn't want it there so instead of call and tell me he just broke in and fired it up and drove it to my house and left it in the drive. I was able to pull the wheel off and tear it all apart and get it fixed in about and hour
