Re:Chainsaws

I use Stihl's too and own several saws, brush cutter, and leaf blower. My favorite is a small 191T limbing saw with a 12" bar. That thing is a screaming little jewell, and great for pruning, and of course limbing.

Little big for the wizard. Just adequete for the big mill. Gonna get a either a 351 or 346xp this winter for the Mini mil and Log wizard. Would like to get a bigger one for milling some day. The log Wizard is awsome. I think mice moved into the Poulan.
Don

Re:Chainsaws

Another brand that's catching on in this area is Jonsered. A local Stihl dealer near me recently dropped their line and went with Johnsered because he said Stihl was really putting the screws to him as far as minimum orders and price points. I've heard they're made on the same line as the Husqy's. Looks like a nice well-made saw.

Re:Chainsaws

Poulan- don't put in any more bar oil than you plan to use in a cutting. Otherwise you'll fill the case.

Jonsored is another high-end, been around awhile, but didn't they just get conglomorated? Still a bit pricey. Got my Husky at Southwestfastener on-line. No tax or shipping, good price.

Stihl is so uptight they won't let dealers post prices on the internet. They want to control the market and make you buy local.

Re:Chainsaws

Stihl may be "uptight", but they're saws are superb, I use 2 , a 046 mag. and a 015 trim, easy to work on when needed, and gobbs of power.

Later, Rob

Re:Chainsaws

Got two Huskys a 257 with a 20" bar and a new 367 (special).

That 367 is scary fast Thought the thing was going to come apart the first time I ran it. 8) The 257 has a pitted piston and scored cylinder :'( , it seems the Jack#$% that surviced it for me didn't tighten the screws up on the butterfly and they fell down on top of the piston and pitted it and scored the cylinder wall. >

I also got a old Poland, the thing hadn't been started in 2 years and just yesterday I fired it up with no problem. It still had the old fuel in it and everything. : I took it apart and cleaned it all up and will sell it soon or keep it to let my brotherinlaws borrow it insted of my good Huskys.

Those Stihls are nice but a bit pricey, I do have a FS85 brush cutter and a leaf blower that are Stihl though.

I love power tools. ;D

Darrell

" Stihl waters run deep." ;D There's a lot of good to be said for a company like Stihl that protects it's vendors from the nightmares of internet cut-throat price wars, by being "uptight"...... Great work, Stihl, keep it up ! Hope they continue to be the best, they're so good that even the old "Save a tree, eat a beaver" joke isn't funny anymore...

Re:Chainsaws

No doubt about the Stihl quality. I just disagree with the business practice. This IS America. I went with Husky because with the same specs on a 72cc as the Stihl I would save some bucks, and the 044 wasn't quite there with the decompression button yet. Jonsored, was an outstanding saw. But haven't seen one used since they were conglomerated, I hope they kept the quality for the price they charge.

I say bring you saws up with your trucks for the first DTR meet, and I'll get logs set up for a ripping/cutting competition. (I'll get this house finished yet)

Re:Chainsaws

I have a short video of a V8 chainsaw going through a 2 foot dia log in a little less than 2 sec. I tried to convert a picture of the saw to jpeg but didn't have any success ( I'm technologically challanged)

Beavers? How do they taste? They stink, I can tell you that much. Big rats with flat tails. They're protected in Massachusetts, and when removed from my pond, soon return. Here's some of the damage they do. That was a 60 foot Hickory(?) and is still standing until I can get to the rest of the mess they've made. By the way, that saw there is an 025C with a 16" bar. Great for all around work, easy to handle, easy to tighten the chain. But that little guy won't handle that big of a tree. Need the 044 for that one.

Re:Chainsaws

ok, since we're really going to talk about chainsaws. I have a sthil 029 with an 18" bar. Really nice unit. Big enough for most trees and small enough to trim with. When I bought it it was the smallest 'professional' quality saw they had. Also use a sthil 036, she does the bigger stuff.
