Cell phones that can take a hit

I recently ran into Nextel's site and saw that they have a whole line of phones that meet Military 810 specifications for vibration, impact, water, etc. I think this is definitely the kind of phone I need.

Does anyone have one? Like it?

Do any other carriers have phones like this or only NexTel?

Also realized that The new nextel's have something called Next Talk (different from DirectConnect) which lets you talk directly to another user OFF network. Kinda cool if you ask me...

I have used Cingular, ATT, alltell and verizon and have found that Nextel is about the best for me. I have an R750 Plus AFU which isn't available to the general public but is about the same as a Motorola HT1000 except it works on Nextel.

Ruggedized models available now at Nextel:

I58sr
I530 - wife has this. it's been brutalized and keeps working
I305
I325
I325 IS

The I325 has a permanent mount antenna on it for better coverage.

I have the Nextel I730, the fourth Motorola Phone I have had. Every one I have had had gotten more and more abused, and held up better and better. I am not so impressed with Nextel's rate plans, but also use the two way feature quite a bit. (so I may be saving more than I know)?
Nextel customer for 5 +\- years, see no other service out there to make me want to switch yet.

I also use Cingular for other reasons that have to do with my job. Let me just say that when it counts, and I want to keep my call up, I go to my Nextel phone.

i have nextel, it's the i205 or something like that. had it for 2 years and the only thing wrong with it is the numbers on the buttons are wearing off, and all my buddy try and make fun of me for having such a huge phone. only paid $25 for it or somehting like that. so i make fun of them for paying $200-300 for theirs.

the i860 is weak.... but still more durable than the most durable phones offered by most carriers..... I had an i95 from nextel until about 6 months ago..... forgot how many hours were on it, but it was unreal...... it made 3 trips into the river, been rained on more times than i can count, got run over by a civic, fell off a pressbox roof and numerous other things...... needed a new battery and i just decided to get a new phone instead..... I have an i730 now, my dad has an i530..... both very durable phones.....

Yup! I have to admit, they're tougher'n a boot! That's the Motorola model we have here at the plant because the're Factory Mutual approved for flammable areas. BTW, we are now told new R750's are no longer available... That is what our people are been told when they have successfully destroyed theirs by dropping them from 130'+ onto concrete. Only refurb units available now...
I've dropped mine from a manlift from 80' up onto rocks and the dang thing wouldn't die! Battery parted ways with the radio but it still worked after reattaching it.
Others have dropped theirs every bit as high and it still talked.. Displays crater but they still communicated.
We absolutely HATE Nextel's screwy network for use here within the plant . Wrong application for local, time-sensitive, immediate response required, in-plant communications.. We'd give ANYTHING to go back to a plain ol' 2 way UHF simplex FM system.
