CB's
CB's
I haven't got my truck yet, but I would like to put a CB in it. I am curious how the best way to do it would be. I would also like duel attena's. Any pics would be GREAT! Thanks!
Nik

This is where mine's mounted.
Used be called "The Brolin Mount" now being marketed by Rip Rook.
Easy to install, stong, and puts the radio right at my finger tips.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Re:CB's
Shovelhead, I noticed that Nikolai is getting a six speed. Not sure, but I suspect that the Brolin will not work with the six speed. Unless it is mounted more to the passenger side.
Nikolai, I have a ham radio setup in mine and use the version that has a removable head. The main part of the radio is under the drivers seat and the head portion which is quite small is mounted just over the extreme LH air vent.

For the dual setup, Firestik has a Dodge fender mount that works great.
Not sure if it works for the 2003's though, you might check their website http://www.firestik.com for info.
They also have a great antenna cable system that easily feeds through the firewall without having to reassemble the connectors.
Check out their tech section, it has lots of info on antenna choices, wiring guidlines, SWR checking and facts.
I went with the dual setup, and got the red/white/blue 4 foot antennas, I'm sure they still sell them.
They don't sell direct from the website, but you can email them and say you couldn't find all the parts and they'll give you a direct phone number to call and order right from them.

I have a question for any cb guru out there.

I got a great deal on a new Wilson 5000 antenna ($30). It has no whip or mast - what ever you call it. What do you recommend I use? There is nothing in the instructions or on Wilson's web site. Have a friend with a swr meter I can borrow to get it fine tuned.

I'm totally new to this stuff so any info you can give is much appreciated.

Thanks

If there is a local CB shop in your area you should be able to purchase a new stinger from them. $30 for a Wilson 5000 who did you rape?
Re:CB's
Dual antennas tend to cancel each other out on automobiles and pickups. The distance between the two antennas just isnt enough. The best setup I have found so far is a Wilson 1000 Mag mount with the 48" steel whip right in the middle of the roof. The farther up you can get and the more center of your truck, the better the ground plane will be. Spend the bucks on a good antenna and get a pretty reasonable priced CB and you will out talk the guys with the big radios.
With the Wilson 1000 and my Galaxy 73, she will talk.
Bart, you got a heckuva deal on that 5000. My 1000 cost me right at 75.
BTW: Another good choice of radios besides Galaxy is the Magnum 257...VERY good modulation on AM and great SSB.

Re:CB's
Monty is correct. In order to see a significant gain directly in front of and behind you (ie. end fire array) the 2 antennas must be spaced 1/2 wavelength apart. For CB, that's about 17 feet. In addition you'll need a phasing harness consisting of specific lengths of 50 ohm and 75 ohm coax. There really isn't much to gain (no pun intended) by going with 2 antennas other than going for a look, and I must admit, phox's ride looks really nice that way. But I'd go so far as to leave one antenna disconnected to preserve omnidirectional radiation pattern one antenna offers.

WOW, 76? I thought I was the inly one old enough to remember that year. ;D Anyway -- thanks for the info. I might just go the "double look". I never heard of the half wavelength thing, and I always ran doubles on my big trucks, with never a problem. Thanks again for the info guys!
Re:CB's
So, I just need a 48" whip for my Wilson?

When I bought the thing it was on the shelf along with about a dozen others. They were orignally priced at $40. I paid $30 for mine. They all didn't get sold until the price was reduced to $20. I got ripped.
