CB problem

Having a problem with my COBRA classic. I can't get any reception and the squelch control doesn't work. It has power and when you key the mike the ant light comes on so I suspect it is transmitting. Any ideas?? It's about seven years old but sees very little use.

If the antenna light comes on, that is an indication of an antenna problem. Check your antenna coax and element carefully. Do not tx until you do as you can blow the finals in the radio.

The reception and squelch indications also point to antenna problems.

Thanks Dodge92, it is a classic 29. There is one arrow at the end of the top line. shows CAL then the arrow. With the swr **** in the middle of it's range the meter is in the green. With it on CAL it goes just into the red. When I adjust the swr cal it will go to the arrow at the end of the red but still no squelch. Does that make sense?? thanks

cb prob

ok lets try to make some sence here ill tell you step by step what you need to do
1 if i remember correcly you have a switch next to meter on one position it says CAL the other swr and trx

2 put switch on cal press you mike on your meter where it says cal with those 2 arrows i mentionned use the cal *** turning clockwise to bring that meter thing between those arrows if dial is turned all the way and you still cant reach in between there you got some kind of prob

3 put switch on swr press mike on your meter where it says swr if i remember correcly it goes 1 a space 2 smaller space 3 small space 4 i dont remember how high it goes you got a swr *** if meter goes higher than 2.5 with *** try to bring it down to as close as you can to 1 if its in the higher then 2.5 and wont go down even with *** turned cunter clockwise indicates problem with antenna or coax

go from there and if it makes sence keep me posted and give me your setup
ex 1 antenna or 2 what kind of antenna ex mirror mount or roof mount etc

hope this helps and i make sence

Well, I have tried all of the above and it seems to be where it should be. I just can't adjust it to get any squelch. I just noticed it wasn't working on the last road trip when we turned it on. Hadn't played with any of the controls so it should have worked. The antenna is on a little between the fender and hood mount. I unscrewed the antenna thinking maybe it wasn't making a good contact after being there about 6 years but it all looked clean. I will have to take it to the radio shop and have it checked out. Thanks for all the help.
