What do you suppose he means by "no more iron" ? He said that more than once I think.

 

That no more iron might be what they were shooting at but still a 50 cal round should go though it, granted depending on angle and size ect ect.

I wonder if he was using "green ammo"?

speaking of close calls, one night when I was on guard duty in Baghdad back in 2003, those crazy Iraqi's where shooting in the air (celebratory fire) for a wedding or something, and 2 rounds landed about 5 ft from us. and 3 others landed in the motor pool hitting some Humvees

That wouldn't be fun. I hear they won't kill you on the return trip straight back down but at any angle, there is still some deadly force behind them.

300 yards 50 cal. did not go through 2 in. plate for me. did not quite make through old piece of rail web either.

 

While shooting with the US Army Pistol Team I heard a story from my coach about a guy that got off an early round with a .45 and it hit the angle iron target frame and the bullet came back and hit the guy between the eyes. It broke his shooting glasses and knocked him cold.

 

little slow for the typical 50- cal being around 2700 fps.

 

If you consider wind resistance for the returned force of a damaged bullet, it isn't to far off.
