Car runs on water?

Anyone else hear about this one?

http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/354/C8115/

I read it and having done the chemical energy formulas I have to say I agree with the last statement in the article but I could be misremembering my Chem 191.

What do ya'll think?

Simple, have him bring the thing out in the public, let one of us "fill it up" and then drive it.

This has been around for quite a while, when the specifics come out, you find he is simply augmenting the usual fuel, not running it on Hydrogen.

But I'm up for a challenge, I would be happy to certify it really runs on water.

To good to be true.
If it was true the big oil companies would not let it happen.

It's a scam almost guaranteed. The laws of the conservation of mass energy cannot be violated. The amount of energy necessary to electrolyze 4 oz. of water to hydrogen (and oxygen) will always be more than the energy that you get from burning it due to heat losses. If he electrolyzed the gas ahead of time I doubt the amount of hydrogen gained would power a car for 100 miles.

If the car takes raw water and does the electrolysis on board then there is surely a big battery somewhere that actually runs the car.

The laws of physics cannot be violated. You can never get something for nothing and there are always losses from energy conversion which is why perpetual motion machines never work.

even if it was real, it will be gone shortly, oil companies will buy him out nicely and destroy the plans and everything.
