Car lifters super loud...

The lifters in my car are loud and getting louder.

I just changed the oil with 10-40 and added a quart of Mystery Oil, because it was suggested to me by a mechanic.

Anyone know if this works?

Could it be the oil pump?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot in advance,

DT.

What kind of car? MMO and Rislone both do well at freeing stuck lifters, but if the oil pressure's low it's not going to help any. Probably best to hook up a cheapo mechanical pressure gauge and find out what your oil pressure is.

Ditto on the "what kind of car?' above. I have had very good luck with the RESTORE brand products in gas engines. I couls buy them at Wal Mart, and choose the size can to fit the engine. The cans are bright silver, with RESTORE in black letters, with a red and blue trapezoid above and below, kind of forming an Octagon. When you see the can, you'll know what I mean. The product fils some of the scoring and wear areas to snug up the clearances, helping quiet worn lisfter bores. I have had compression increases and better throttle response after two or three applications (added at oil changes) and highly recommend the product.

Of Course, nothing can mask severe wear, so I can not guarantee your results will be like mine, but I have used it several times.

One of the most dramatic was a leaking valve guide on an '81 Toyota I had. The police and fire dept. came to my house once while I was warming up the car because a neighbor saw all the smoke and thought my garage was on fire! After two additions of the product (it burned so much that I replaced a quart every 500 miles, so I didn't really have to change the oil at first ) I noticed very little smoking upon start up. After putting 20,000 miles on the car that summer, there was about a 30 second timeframe where she would smoke, but that was all! Oil pressure came back up and I was adding a quart only every 1000 to 1500 miles!

had many old beaters when I was a kid .......... quite a few had "sticky" lifters

my grandpa showed me an old trick that worked quite well ........... dump a quart or so of diesel in the crankcase with the oil ............ go for a 15 minute drive on the highway (wind her out) ............... then come home and change the oil

worked great on a few old 318's I had

it also doesn't hurt to run a quart of dextron in place of one quart of your engine oil .......... it helps clean out the motor

on chevy small blocks the rocker arms are adjustable and my need adjusting
