canadian dollar

The canadian dollar rose to $0.77 us today. My cost for one us dollar is around $1.31can
So, I did a little comparison shopping
I built my truck on dodge.com (us site) The cost was $36,945 after rebate. Do the math (36,945 x 1.31) works out to $48,397.95
Build my truck on dodge.ca and the cost is $51,260.00

I wonder when/if the cost of canadian trucks will drop. I think the trend of the us dollar dropping will continue.

Re:canadian dollar

As long as Dodge can charge extra for the trucks, they'll do so. Tempting to buy it across the border and bring it across.

Re:canadian dollar

That would be a bit of a reversal! So used to the trucks up here being bought up and shipped south. The exporters up here might not like it but I sure like the math when I'm figuring out my next trip to our southern brethren ;D

The dealers are starting to feel the effect of the change in the exchange rate. Dropped into one of the chrysler dealerships to look at a used truck and the salesmanager said that before the increase in the Can $ that truck would have been on a trailer heading south. Also noticed at another dealership a couple of nice looking 2001 sitting there. One has been on the lot for well over a month.

Re:canadian dollar

I shipt vehicles north from the USA for several years and then as the Canuck buck got weak I was in a holding pattern until it really took a beating and then I reversed the plan...I shipt south for many years until everyone and their dog got into it and then the manufacturer warranty issues and more rules at the border started slowing it a wee bit. Now, nothing can go south to make a buck...but it will be coming north in a few months with the way the dollar is gaining strength on the US buck. Makes it a nice time for a USA winter vacation. ;D

EH!

51K for my dually Laramie 4x4 04'.

Re:canadian dollar

the last time the canadian dollar was this "high" against the american dollar was 10 years ago. It's not that the canadian dollar is getting stronger, the american dollar is getting weaker against all currencies. (not necessarly bad)

Re:canadian dollar

I can remember giving US visitors 95 cents for their dollar when I pumped gas back in the 70's. We used to take all our money and head down to the US for speed parts for our cars. One friend bought a '58 Vette in Montana for $1700, drove it up here and sold it for $4800. $3000 was a good junk of change in the 70's. You could find the odd Hemi Cuda and the like for about $5000.

Seeing the Canadian dollar doing good has rekindled my desire to head down to the Black Hills next summer. Hopefully it'll hold out til then. It's just too costly having to add 50% to everything you buy when you visit the US.

The Black Hills is an excellent choice for a vacation. I love it here and just hope more people don't realize how nice it is. Have you been to the Black Hills before?

I've only been to Canada a couple of times but I didn't really pay much attention to the exchange rate. Both trips were short.

Haven't been to the Black Hills before, but I'll be singing "Rocky Racoon" all the way down there. I did a nice loop through Glacier-Missoula-Coure d'Alene-Pond 'Orelle (sp?) and up 93 back into Canada 4 years ago. Great trip, beautiful country, decent people. Exchange rate killed me, was $1.57 at the time. Actually paid less Canadian money for fuel in Banff, which is probably the biggest tourist trap in the Canadian Rockies.
