Haulin_in_Dixie why put them up for sale? let someone else enjoy them, maybe sell the trlr & Intruder, and get a trike conversion for the Wing?

as for the Guys saving up to buy a Harley, I'd rent one before I bought one. if you have been riding dependable Jap bikes for awhile, Harley's might not make you happy.
a Sportster is NOT a good bike for a Jap bike rider to buy for his first Harley.

the wife continually gripes she wants a Sporty, we went to a shop last week and let her set on one at idle, and it shook her teeth out. she asked "does it get smoother with speed?" uh, no, it ONLY GETS WORSE!!!

Well I got it out this past summer and I have let the gas sit and will have to pull all four carbs, clean them out. Also the forks are leaking so needs some work. Most likely, my son will get them. I would rather he get them than sell them. The trailer I may sell as he is not into the camping bit. Good point with the trike, but it just does not interest me much. Sitting is really distructive, the intercom cables came apart. I brought the stereo and a few things inside. I will do something with them this summer. Some tlc and good cleanup will bring it up now but later probably not.

I have to agree, I had a 700 Intruder that I set up for the Alaska trip, did not dare take the Gold Wing, read too many horror stories. The road was not finished then and there was a lot of dirt and construction. I used the Intruder because it was powerful enough to pull the trailer, low enough and light enough to horse it in a pinch. I installed 1100 Gold Wing bags and trailer hitch with some adaption. It looked great, like a small dresser. Installed a 1000 mile Harley seat. Stretced the trailer tounge out for better handling and gas cans. Took enough food to come back with some. Lined the bottom of the trailer with cans, the whole floor. Trailer weighed 500 pounds loaded. Trip was effortless, had to put plugs in on the way back on the Alcan, and had to put a rear tire on at Wenatchee Washington. Ran eight inches of snow in Yukan, did not dare stop, sleet sure feels good on the face. I sold the Intruder with 89,000 on it, chains were noisey, otherwise it ran great. Tires, plugs, a battery, oil and gas is all it ever took. Brought it back to stock to sell still have the bags setup in the shed. I took 350 pictures on the trip, if I ever get a scanner again I will post some.

Haven't been able to do as many miles as I would like, but Wings are like riding clouds I'd bet. Had about 35 bikes and even a small repair shop, for a time, couldn't live without a bike around.

The NY Times has an article on collecting British Bikes in the auto section:

I think that one needs to register to get a logon, and Ithink that it's still free.

This is what I consider a relaxing weekend ride. 1998 GSXR-750 I also have a 2001 Aprilia Mille, an Italian V-Twin, that I use as my regular commuter.

Pappyman,
You have some nice rides - in fact all of you do. Some nice haulers too. If any of you are planning on going to Sturgis SD in August this year, maybe I'll see you there. I'll be riding and taking the week after to go through Wyoming, Colorado and the rockies.

I get more crap from my coworkers than I ever thought possible, because my new Goldwing spent the best part of 3 months in the shop the first year I owned it. They all break, so fix it and ride on!

in storage still stock, 1972 Hodaka Super Rat (can you say wheelie), & a little ol 2002 GL1800 (pearl yellow)in the shop w/ matching Bushtec Airride trailer. We're are headed to Indy (on the wing) for the 50th Aniv. of the US Nationals in Sept
Since I bombed my ctd though it's a toss up on witch to drive.

Wow lots of bikers here. Have any of you manufactured some sort of loading device to get your big bikes into the back of your trucks? I'd like to be able to load my Nomad or Linda's Shadow then hook onto the TT. I've seen some sights on the web that look interesting but I'm thinking of building my own. I just wondered if any of you have tackled such a project.

Great reply. I put 20,000 km/year on my bikes in our seven month riding season so you don't need to tell me about riding vs hauling it. I'm just trying to find a way to get my travel trailer and bike to the same destination then ride.
