Any one have experience with these two tire brands? I currently have the Coopers and they are OK but not so good for mileage.

I run stock tire size 245/75 r16 and tow about 2/3 time.

 

I do not know if it was a fluke or not, but I had a Cooper come apart on the freeway....outside dual....ate the fiberglass fender extension.....over a 1000 bucks to fix. The tire had about 35K on it and was looking good.

I recommend looking at Procomps AT and MT. Good tread life so far 35K and stil have about 20K to go. Tow 8K lb trailer about 3-4 times a month.

 

I have always had good luck with BFG's, I have them on two of my trucks now and they have been great. I usually run mud tires and typicaly they don't last long, but with the BFG's I can get very good mileage, over 40,000. They are very tough and have a stiff sidewall. Also the road maners are good, rain and snow they handle with ease. And they are quiet compared to most other brands. One tire I would also consider is TUREXUS, I have herd they do well.

 

I'm going with BFG AT/KO's because I've heard they do really well mileage wise on our heavy trucks. Plus, I'm finally working somewhere where I can get them discounted enough to the same price as the off-brand Regul Trailblazers I was running.

If you can get Regul's in your area they are a great tire! I have nearly 30K on mine(33x12.50R16.5) and they still have about another 2K or more on 'em. They've been through hell.

 

Ive been told that that the BFG's are somewhat soft and that a few more than normal have blown out sidewalls

By contrast, I have actually heard good things about the Coopers - they are cheaper and are 10 ply with the proper E load rating. The BFG's are not rated E and are 8 ply.

If you want to go big, I Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips and Super Swamper SSR's are supposed to be excellent.

PJ's are the only tires I've seen bigger than 33inch that come with an "E" rating.

Yes, BFG's have the same weight capacity in their "D" tires, but sidewall flexes a bit much for my taste.

How in the heck do you and LE work on your trucks?? Maintenance must be a nightmare - my truck is stock height with 265's and its hard to reach things. I must be short ;D

Rig up a pully system and some rapelling gear.

Seriously though, I almost need a stool to check my oil level.
Can barely reach the dispstick on tippy toes.
A chair to change the fuel filter.

Can almost sit cross legged indian style to change the oil.
(still have it done at the Dealer though)

I'd be excited to see your truck come in! However not if I had to put it on a lift!

I decided to go with the BFG's, they are steel belted, 10 ply rated, have a 50,000 mile tread warranty and are about the same price in my town.

Did notice the shop had to put a lot of (3) balancing weight on these, where the coopers had only one.

 

If you are worried about putting a lot of weights on a tire to balance it, ask your tire shop to put Equal inside the tire before they mount it.
It is usually used for large truck tires, but it does come in a smaller package for light trucks.
I use this in mine, works very well.
And the best part, you never have to have the tires re-balanced.
As far as tires, here is what is being put on my truck just about a month from now.
Cooper Discoverer ST 265/75/16 10 ply

I assume you are talking about the BF Goodrich All Terrain KO's - to my knowlegde the BFG's (both All Terrain KO's and Mud Terrains) are 8 ply and D rated. Have they changed the specifications since I last time I checked? This may be an issue for you if you tow heavy.

I went with the BFG Commercail TA's, they are E rated and have a 50,000 mile warranty. I do tow a fifth wheel about 2/3 of the time, it weighs out around 10,500.
