Belt Squeel
Belt Squeel
Two weeks ago I purchased a 98 12v truck. It worked great but when reved over 2grand it would take to belt squeeling. If you reved it over 2 again it would come out of it. So this weekend while I was doing my KDP and valve cover gaskets, I checked the belt and it appeared to be fairly good, if not, new. With that said, I finished what I had to do, degreased the front of the engine and put the belt back on. Everything went well but as I drove, a slight belt squeel started to come back once reved over 2. It slowly intensified and from outside the truck it's almost unbearable. The worst part is you can't get it to go away now.
All my pullys on everything are tight so where is this squeel coming from? I rubbed my finger on the waterpump pulley and it was very filmy. So I figure the belt got greased up and is now in squeel mode.
I was wondering, what kind of cleaner would you use to dry everything up? I've heard of something other than brake cleaner or parts cleaner, just can't think of it at the moment.

Check your water pump. Mine sounded like a belt squealing when it first started going out. Drove me nuts, it was like yours rev it up and it would quiet down. Finally noticed some weeping below the pump so I change it out and no more squeal.
