Beating my brains out on a 1998 Dodge 1500!!
OK well I seen a 98' Dodge 1500 360CID 4x4 Auto. for sale and I decided to pick it up for how cheap it was... Very clean truck, with about 135000 miles on it... Heres the deal it stopped going into overdrive, 1-3 and TQ converter lock up is fine... Tranny dosnt seem to slip at all.. The tranny fluid was red not burnt and full.. Did not throw any codes at this time. I decided to go pickup a overdrive solenoid and some fluid and a new filter... Hoping this would cure it..
I dropped the pan down, there was no Metal on the magnet just some normal clutch material. I dropped the valve body down, replaced the overdrive solenoid-cleaned everything up. I put the new filter on and filled it to full on the dipstick...
Still NO overdrive, but then again no slipping, and the fluid is still pink...
I had a buddy scan for codes once more and I came up with a "P0715-Shift Soleniod "A'' performance or stuck off"
Maybe this is the problem, but have no idea what "Soleniod A" is or where its located..
Hope someone can give me some advice. I would really suck if I had to replace the tranny already.. Thanks!

That truck has two speed sensors, one in the tranny and one in the rear differential. They are both easy to change.I would be looking in that direction first before doing any major repairs to it.Ron G

I'd check the wiring from the PCM to the tranny.
Sometimes they do break or corrode, and then there is either no juice to the solenoid or there is no ground for it.
