Barking dog help....please!

The neighbor acquired this dog about 6mo ago. Since then The dog does nothing but bark at night, hours on end, loud enough to wake you from a dead sleep, up @3:15am today. Over the past several months, I've contacted 311 (city services), animal control and the police non-emergency #. I've received minimal replies/assistance from AC. Honestly....I am fed up w/this dog and the fam can't sleep. I'd take "other" measures but I've filed formal complaints w/my name & info. I've thought about anti-bark devices but they seem to be a gimmic and talking to my council person. Awake 5x last week and since Sat this week. This has become a pain....any ideas would really be appreciated.

They must be leaving the dog out 24/7? Every time the dog barks hit the panic alarm on your truck and car if you have one. You can tell him that you assume the dog is barking at intruders so the horn activation is to help ward them off.

I would set up an automatic shrill device that gets his attention.

That's an idea but the truck is parked next to a good neighbor who we like hanging out with. The owners are clueless....I don't think they'd care if a car alarm was going off.

It's gotten so bad....I go to work feeling like I'm hungover everyday but from sleep deprivation.

I have recently had a similar issue. we started being awakened several times every night and the barking continued through the day.I made a complaint to animal control who posted a warning without effect. It was bad enough that another neighbor several doors down came to our back yard at 1:30 AM, while we were away and used the water hose over my fence. On his way back home he saw a local LEO and told him of the problem. When we got back we complained to the city again. This time they actually spoke to the woman and told her she had to get rid of at least 2 of her 5 small dogs and license the rest. I also rigged a device with a remote control water valve so I could immediately start a stream of water squirting over the fence and keep it going until the dogs stop yapping. She came to my door to tell me I had a broken sprinkler that was hitting her garage roof. I explained the purpose of the water and she left. The dogs still bark now and then but the problem has been greatly reduced with most nights going undisturbed.

There are items available that will emit a very high pitched sound that will hurt the dog's ears but leave you and your family undisturbed. They make them for car alarms that people can hear too. Look for something called a sonic pain generator.

I tried one of those "anti-bark" devices but they have a very short range. I found you had to be standing right next to them for it to work. The more expensive ones MIGHT do the job.

Yep, and if they quit answering their phone, knock on their door. I look at like this, if I am up, so will you be........... Might even consider getting a 10 million candle power spotlight to shine in their windows as well.

Wink

Short of spending a large amount of cash you have taken all the legal recourse you can.
I know you want to but you have already pointed out the legal system has your name now and all the other stuff would be considered harassment.
the dog is talking to you
He wants to run away from a bad owner

I have heard () of some people who have made some "special" cookies that they give to the dogs when they bark. The dogs either have a really bad case of the "runs" or they just mellow out big time. Either way, the problem seemed to resolve itself.

Well, something like a dog whistle (sp).
Electronis so any sounds set it off.

Well there is always the old "when the dogs bark you leave a (fully involved) brown paper bag of dog poop on their doorstep ring the bell and leave" trick.

I really like that one. Thank you.

In Ohio, our lawyer says the definition of harassment is more than three calls per day . . .
