I had a neighbor who did this. The folks next to him went on vacation and left their dogs home for several days (probably well rationed with food and water). They had a doggie door and the mutts came out and barked all night, slept in the house all day. Ol' Ken made up a few "Ex-lax" burgers and lobbed them over the fence. When the pet owners came home, there were painters, carpet layers, and drapery folks at the house for the next couple of weeks. The dogs seemingly disappeared thereafter.

Thats what worked for me while I was ringing the doorbell. I created some panic in the owners. I told them I was awakened by the dogs who obviously must have been awakened by something or someone in the neighborhood so lets find out whats causing them to bark. All the while I had my 'light' waving all around in their faces, in the house, at the dogs etc. I told them I will do my very best to keep an eye out for whats causing them to bark and I will let them know every single time. It took one more illuminating visit to address the barking.

A wee bit of an accelerant [sp?] is helpful too.

Those are some good ideas. More details......The neighbor w/the dogs is behind me so I'd actually have to drive around the block. How can I get their ph#....that seems like a good start. From there I'll move to the ex-lax burgers. I'm so fed up (almost too tired to do anything)but this is work in progress!
PLEASE KEEP THE IDEAS COMING!
I spoke w/my council person and they're going to help and requested I get a sound check from the LEO w/names documenting it, then it's violation and ticket time.

I vote for the burgers ,or hook up a K3LA air chime to your compressor and move it to the fence and let it ripp ever time the dogs go off ,so will the horn.

I had to google these horns....didn't know what they were.
Ohh, please come hook these up for me! And yes, I'd like to order the "bark" sound activator so when they bark tonight....WHOA!

That is excellent! The frantic loud visit because you're concerned for your neighbor's safety.

Probably the "right" thing to do, all legal like.

But the exlax burgers I'd do for fun.

Yep, and they CAN'T call it harassment, because it is their dogs who alerted you to the possible intruder...........

BTW, Im not really cool with the whole ex-lax thing, it really isn't the poor dogs fault, now if you could feed the ex-lax to the owners........

You may have mentioned it and I missed it but what did the neighbors say when you discussed it with them.

I was never able to make contact with them or they didn't want to answer the door. Thank the maker they didn't bark last night, I bet due to Animal Control calling them or stopping by. I was completely prepared to drive over there and act all wacked out @ 3am w/a spotlight! I know this isn't over yet.

Dogs bark, nothing you can do. Get some ear muffs....LOL This is the reason I live in the country. My Blue Healer dosen't bark unless she has a reason. On a serious note, try not to get so worked up over it, it won't do you any good. The only thing I can think of is to put up a high wood fence to redirect the sound.
