It is on the news - - ouch. That cost a few pennies - - glad the pilots are OK. And, glad that sucker burned up good - - don't want it sitting there in good shape for picking over.

One page said this would be the first B-2 crash, and another described it as the most expensive aircraft ever built.

Anyway, the main thing is no one was killed.

I should have said it was kind of a trick question.

The plane was assembled (ie bolted together) in Palmdale but it was manufactured in a (very large) dedicated facility. Let's see if anyone knows....

Much of the manufacturing takes place @ Peek. Everyone is SAR.

Materials are bought and sold under "shill" companies and names.

SAR requires a person to lock their work in a safe before they even go to the restroom, no talkie to anyone. All computers are housed in metal lined rooms, etc, etc.

Constant polys to all involved.

B-2 was manufactured at a huge facility in Pico Rivera, California which is a close suburb of East Los Angeles. A few miles down the road from where I grew up for the most part. The property and facility was a former Ford auto plant that manufactured LTD's in the 70's.

I remember seeing special rail cars that held wing sections that would always be sitting behind the plant in the small rail yard that is still there today.

The plant was so huge it had it's own credit union and the plant itself operated under the guise that it manufactured MX missle system guidance/components systems...until the eventual coming out in public of the plants true purpose.

I can remember as a kid watching Northrup build huge new buildings on the former Ford property that we're always akwardly shaped and none of the new buildings ever had any windows.
The property was heavily guarded and lit up like christmas at night.

A black facility and like you say Don, I am sure they operated under many of the conditions you mention.

"The Peek" was indeed Pico Rivera as Justin said. Employees and military often referred to it as "the peek" maybe because nobody was allowed to peek inside. (-:

Nearly all materials were moved at night. Plain clothed military, unmarked trucks/vehicles.

What an amazing project. This thing is 30 plus years old. Rumor has it, a flying prototype was air frame testing @ Nellis a year before production started. The Kansas was built in 1995. I had a cheesy, V-10 powered Dodge 2500 back then. LOL

Don,
Never knew it was referred to as Peek but it makes a lot of sense.

We must have drove by that plant hundreds of time while growing up if not thousands.

Unfortunately today the whole complex has been demolished and is now a large shopping center and industrial area.

Amazing how such a large project can be kept so secret for so long in a HEAVILY populated area of Los Angeles county.
A BLACK facility right in front of everyones face.....who would have ever thought!!

actually those facilities are only there to make you think the B-2 is manufactured. its actually where they send witness protection people to hang out.
the B-2 is actually an alien spacecraft that we modified to be flown by humans.
