Autobody Paint Help / PPG Delstar

Last night I painted a set of wheels semi-gloss black and everything seemed ok. I waited 20min. between coats and put on 4 total. After about 3 hours the paint was still very tacky. I let them hang for 7 hours overnight and they are still not cured up. I put them out on the driveway in the sun for 3 hours now and they are a lot better but you can still feel it is soft.

I mixed just like the directions stated. 8 parts Delstar, 3 parts DTR601 medium reducer and 1 part DXR hardener. It acts just like one time I sprayed a tractor with Tractor Supply paint and I did not put the hardener in it

Does this stuff have to sit for 24hrs or what? I usually spray base/clear but I wanted this to be durable since its for wheels. The directions say it can be sanded/buffed after 24 hours but I dont see where it will ever be hard enough to do that. http://www.tcpglobal.com/docs/ppgdarp.pdf

generally, enamel will take a long time to cure. did you do a tack coat first, followed by a light wet coat, then going progressively wetter with your coats? some have found the best way to shoot enamel, is to give it some cure time in between coats.

They are slowly getting better in the sun. I guess I need to invest in one of those heat lamps. I did a first, light coat then went progressively heaver and the last one was pretty darn heavy.

I dont know the exact time between coats but I can tell you it was between rounds of the UFC fight last night. So probably at least 1/2 hour. I think they just need a good sun baking. I am a shade tree painter so any advice I can get is helpful. The paint shop makes me feel like a tard when I ask them questions.

Don't get too much heat or sun on it or it will wrinkle. Some take a long time to cure.
good luck
