I'm visiting Tri-State area. GA, TN, & SC
Hi guys,
The wife and I will be spending a week total in this area. Blue Ridge TN (4 days) and Charleston SC (3 days). The week of Aug 4th. I live in Phoenix and have never been to the south. I need some ideas on what I have to go see and what I have to eat or drink. No time for golf (bummer) unless it's a 9 hole, then maybe. (Must play w/wife, golf that is) I did talk her into going to the Yes concert in Atlanta.
What must I see? What must I do? What must I eat and drink or where?
Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm looking forward to the famous southern hospitality. So far everyone we have dealt with have been over the top friendly.
Also, how's the humidity?
p.s. We aren’t the touristy type. We kind of like the whole in the wall places or places locals go.
Thanks
Tom

You might try going white water rafting on the Chatooga River on the SC/Georgia border. I believe that is where they filmed the movie "Deliverance" with Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds. It is beautiful! Just start paddling hard if you hear any banjos..

Without a doubt, if you get the chance, stop at the Museum of Appalachia, just off of I-75, a few miles north of Knoxville.
Not your ordinary museum, it is completely authentic, and it is unlike any other museum you are likely to see. There are no barriers between you and the exhibits. They have an enormous amount of completely authentic Appalachian artifacts, including complete homes and working farms that were torn down and reassembled at the site. You can explore them all in intimate detail. It's easy to spend the whole day there.
The Museum of Appalachia is one man's dream and one man's passion, and like most things that aren't run by committee, it could have gone horribly wrong or wonderfully right. The Museum of Appalachia went wonderfully right.
I should also add, I don't know anyone who has been there that didn't rave about it, and the locals think it's fabulous.
When you leave, you will have an appreciation for just how hard life was for these people, and just how tough they were.
Norris Lake state park is nearby. They have camping and other accommodations. Motels are also available in the area.

we take EVERY one to walk the beach in the dark, down onto the battery at dark,
we can take you on base if you want.
see the
you should go to Fort Sumter (its a boat tour)
rainbow row in downtown.
high cotton - a restaurant, $100, shirt & tie deal.
few roof top bars, if you drink
do you have a motel room yet?
might be able to help you out there - shoot me a PM.

Ya i think the humidity will feel like its about 220% and If you want to get use to it go sit in a steam sauna for a while. Ok Ok it not quite that bad but coming from there it will feel close.
If your looking for stuff to do in Atlanta you could go to the Aquarium, Coke musuem.

Oh ya, I forgot about the Coke museum. Thanks.
Where I come from it's hot Up to 122 in the summer, however it's not as humid. I've been to St. Louis in June 100% humidity and 93 degrees. That pretty much sucked. I'm sure I can handle anything for 7 days.
Thanks for all the responses.

definitely do the carriage ride.
i have never done it, call me if you want to do one together.
there's a "romantic ride" for 2 or 4,
and a "tourist ride" for about 16 hot stinky sweaty tourists.
have you called the cities visitor center & asked them to send you a kit?
edit, add:
