ATV windshields

Just wondering if anyone is running a windshield on their ATV, if so, how do you like it.

The reason for the question is last winter in Colorado, we were making a 8 mile ride down a gravel road to the area we walked into elk hunting. Well a few of those rides were made in 25deg. weather with snow. That experience has me looking for a warmer way to ride.

I'm thinking windshield and helment with a face shield.

Thanks for any input.

I don't have one yet, but plan on getting one for the same reason. Since they work on snowmobiles, I would think it would help on an ATV. My biggest problem was the hands. Cinching up the hood on my coat and and a neoprene face mask kept my face and ears warm enough, but the hands suffered. I have bought a set of hand covers for the next trip.

Where do you hunt in Colorado?

Had one on my wifes ATV. She loved it. It helped block the wind, mud from from others, deflected small limbs etc. 1 problem - Most of the time I haul 3 to 4 four wheelers on my 16' trailer so I turn them sideways to haul them, but I carried hers somewhere don't remember where, and it was the only one on the trailer so I drove it on and tied it down and away I went, UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH, Fast!!Windshied did not survive the 80 MPH head on airflow. It bent it over and broke it off just above the supports. Oops. I have not replaced it yet, been about 4 years. Yes she does bring the subject up every deer season, "The winds cold, Wish I had my windshield."

We hunt unit 62, southwest of Montrose. It's a non draw area for elk, with lots of folks for company, but we've hunted the same few sq. miles for several years and learned a few tricks and secrets.

We hunt the second modern gun hunt and had snow the last few days of the hunt last year, it was great. We made the ride into our honey hole, on that snowy Thursday morning and met 15 or so rigs heading out and we road past 7 or 8 occupied camps. My brother and I laughed at the lightweights leaving so early (four days left to hunt) it was only a small blizzard. When we came out about dark, ALL the camps were gone.

We were a bit concerned (lot concerned), but in the end it worked out great. We had the place to ourselves and the old 95 managed to pull our gooseneck horse trailer/ camper out with no problems.

We camp at 9200' so we had a bit of weather, on the way home it was amazing that there was almost zero snow in town, if I remember Montrose is around 5700'.

Kinda one of those Cowboy-Up events.

There is a guy a few miles from me that makes his own accessories. He makes hand mits and rack covers but I am not sure about windshields. I will check if anyone is interested.
