ATV Price?

Wife and I are looking at picking up a 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 400 4x4 automatic atv. Has a winch, upgraded wheels/tires and 195 miles on it and the owners have a atv shop and have done all the maintenance. Its in very nice condition...that being said they are asking $3200.

Now the original ad had it listed as an 08 but she pulled the paperwork and its an 07. I was thinking about offering $2800 for it??? any ideas if thats a good price or not?

I haven't priced them in a long time but if its in like new cond, I'd be willing to pay $3200. 195 miles isn't that many.

I would test drive, look at the fluids. If it runs OK, buy it. I paid $4k for a 350 Honda rancher, ES, 4x4, with 50 hours. It looked new, he had lots of offers at that price.

Yeah, I would defintely take it out for a test ride. That's not too bad of a price at all, I paid 8000 (I think) for my 07 kingquad 700 brand new, with 27" ITP mudders and 14" wheels. And no, 195 miles isn't much at all for a quad. I think I had that on mine in a few months.

Yea its a tough call. You will def. have to see it in person. I believe the Yamahas are the best all around brand for reliability, quality, and class. Look at the intake, wiring, joints, signs of rollover, grass in wheels, major scratches. If it is in like new condition, I'd say 2800 is what I'd give max.

Dealership only offered 1500 for my YFZ450. Its book value is $4100. Go figure.

Went ahead and sent her an e-mail last night and said that we would like to first check it in person, but that we'd like to offer $2800 for it since it was an 07 and not an 08 as originally posted. Will see what she says.

Here's some pictures of it. That black bag on the back doesnt come with it, they gave that to a friend.

Let me know what you think.

I'm not sure this makes a difference for you or not but I will mention it anyway. When we were looking at quads for the wife, we ended up buying a Kodiak 450 for her. We looked at the 400 too as it was much cheaper but there was quite a difference in them that at first we didn't know about. The two biggest were 4 wheel engine breaking and the low gear in the shift pattern. The Kodiak 400, now called the Grizzly 400 in your case and dropped for 2009 altogether, had H N R for the shift pattern. The 450 had L H N R P for the shift pattern. Low gear and all diff lock makes it a great climber and puller and helps a lot with nimble climbs around large rocks and lower traction areas where you can't just plow through but have to go slow. The engine breaking is nice too. The 450 is also liquid cooled but I can't remember if the 400 was or not, it may have been oil cooled. $2800 is still a good price for it though so you may not care about those features but I just wanted to make sure you knew about them. I'm not sure how much you researched the models before zeroing in on this one.

Being that it has bighorns and douglas wheels, that look to be in great shape, I'd be willing to give 3k.

I sold a two year old 350 bruin for 2800 and it was only 2 wheel drive and bone stock. The photos show upgraded wheels and a canvas storage deal so 2800 would be a great deal on a 400 4x4. And up to 3200 would not be a bad one.

Well funny you should mention that Kodiak 450 as she also has a 2004 Yamaha Kodiak 450 that she was asking $3000 for. I opted for the newer because I guessed it had fewer hours/miles and it was pretty much the same machine. I also thought for an 04 $3000 was a bit high.

I see what you mean about the difference in gearing, but overall they seem to be the same ATV. Both are liquid cooled engines w/ fan, overall dimensions are virtually the same although the Grizzly has an 1" more ground clearance.

For what I'm doing with the ATV, work around the farm and road dogs, it should be more than I need. Not looking to hot rod it or go mudding or trail riding...so I'm not sure the slightly bigger engine or Low gear would be all that necessary. I actually would prefer not to have the engine break with roading the dogs. The Polaris I've borrowed in the past does have it and it tends to jerk on the dogs when you let off the gas and that brake kicks in.

Been looking at ATV's for a number of years and the Yamaha Grizzly line has always impressed me. I've pretty much been on everything from 300's - 700's and Bomadiers to Yamaha's...That being said IMO the Grizzly's seem to have the nicest ride to me.

Thanks for identifying the wheels and tires...i'll check those out.

I'm willing to go to $3000, but she did say $3200 or best offer...can't hurt to ask for $2800 and see if we can wiggle on that price.

2800 is a fair price. If she were to take it in for a trade or outright sell any dealership wouldn't go past 2500 for it. You can easily talk her down.

Those are actually Duro tires. They are Maxxis Bighorn knockoffs. I don't know much about the Duros but they look good.
