Attention all California members

CHP has now teamed up with the Califonia Air Resource Board to stop illegal usage of Red farm diesel in trucks and smoke prohibition has begun!

Just like a DUI stop, they will pull you over into a checkpoint dip your tank and do a smoke test on the spot!

Those of you having hot rod parts may have a problem!! Those of you running red diesel

3 more weeks and I won't have to deal with California again. Getting stationed in another state and couldn't be happier to leave.

late great golden state

there is a reason we that live here call this state "californication".

only thing i have done in put on a 20" magnaflow and have not been able to find red diesel. i guess now not finding the "red" has been a good thing. actually my truck seems to smoke less now with PS grey/MMO combo and the 20" magnaflow. wonder why that is, anyone know?

Does anyone know how the "tank dip" test goes? I have a aux tank in the bed of my truck and want to know if I empty all the red diesel out of it (that is for my JD 4020 tractor) and fill it with 45 gallons of road diesel, will that dillution still have enough dye in it to not pass a test if I get stopped? I asked this question on another thread, but no one seemed to answer.

<edit> I would like to use my aux tank for road diesel too for long trips in the truck as well as farm diesel most of the time for the tractor.

Thanks,

JWB

i have heard it takes 5 to 8 fill ups to clean out a tank that had red in it. as long as it is not plumbed into your fuel system, having red in it is no big deal.

Right. But, If I empty the aux tank, hose, and filter, them put road diesel in it and fill up my truck out of the aux tank, will I transfer enough dye into the truck tank to get in trouble? Does that make sense? The truck tank will never be filled with red diesel, I know the fine and won't do it. But, it may have a trace of dye from the aux tank being used back and forth. The dillution of dye to new clean fuel will be so slight, I just don't know how much they can pick up.
