Anyone work in the north slope??
I am about to take a new job up there. Work has really came to a stand still offshore for me as of now so I am going up there to take a NDT position. 3 on 3 off so it is really not a bad hitch.
Any input is appreciated.

Travel is on your own time and you pay for the flight so it can be an expense from Texas but there are plenty that do it.
I do not have a regular rotation up there but go up for special projects and trouble calls. With the price of oil there are doing a ton of work and housing is a little primitive so be prepared. Have fun and don't eat too much, it easy to do up there.

Ya I have already worked out plane tickets from DFW. It really isnt that bad. How is the housing? Food? I assume that there isnt alot to do up there. What do I need to take up there to stay busy? Any stores or anything up there or do I need to come loaded down? I.E. Cigs and what ever else.
If you want it you better take it with you....They have a company store but things are very spendy....No alcohol allowed....Meals are the best you will find at any man camp...Are they buying your arctic gear?

I did one six week hitch in deadhorse rewoking doyon rig 15. I thought it was pretty miserable, but our camp was good and the food was even better. I have quite a few buddies who work up there and like it. Bugs are bad in the summer and the wind with 40 below sucks in the winter. best of luck.
who you going to work for....Like CamperAndy said they should give you a list of what you need. Even tho summer is comming it will only get up to 70 degrees, and BUGS. The sun won't be setting soon for awhile. Good Luck, it will make you are break you.
Worked out of Deadhorse for 5 years. 3 years for Halliburton and 2 years for Nabors Drilling. Great experience. It was cold, but barable. Summers were great. Like said, lots of bugs. Both companies paid for all flights. Did 2 week rotations. Flying become old real quick. The little store in Deadhorse is very expensive and there is only one. Bring lots of Chew or Smokes. 10 bucks a can. Lots of Caribou and Grizzlys. If you are working on the off shore rig, you will see a lot of Polar Bear in the winter. Begining of winter, you take boat to rig. As Ice is being made smooth, but still chunky, you take those little tank looking things. When road is complete, you take pickups or Semi. When ice is unsafe, you take helicopter. You'll have fun. Oh, make sure you do the polar bear swim. Water is about 34 degrees. You have to do it. lol
