Anyone from Texas Work in the Oil Patch?
Anyone from Texas Work in the Oil Patch?
I was wondering how stuff was going out west texas in the drilling? I know around here in the dfw area in the barnett shale region we been slow and they been stacking rigs like crazy.I heard possibly laying guys off and was wondering if someone could get me a job if it came to get layed off.
Arkoma gas basin has stacked a couple rigs, but that not surprising since all the gas here is shallow, low producing wells with lots of water.
International seems to be more along the lines of "caught up".
US domestic seems to be stacking rigs for upgrades and maintenance right now.

Texas has lost 14 rigs for the week and 155 for the year. Check the BHI rig count if you want an exact number by district. Deep Water Gulf of Mexico has not seen any kind of slow down yet. Many of the land rigs run on a well to well contract. That makes it real easy for operators to lay the rigs down. Also, the smaller operators are more apt to shut down a drilling program as the price of WTI (West Texas Intermediate) goes down. The Haynesville Shale in North Louisiana is getting a lot of attention these days. Monies are being cut from the Barnette Shale to drill the Haynesville. Several of the majors are drilling there. The Rockies and West Texas are historically some of the first places to feel the pinch when drilling slows down. Ed B

I'm a lease operator in central Texas and our company has gone from about 17 rigs to 15 in this area. I expect they will cut a few more. Time will tell. With gas selling for $5 an mcf they will probably wait till it gets $8-10 and hedge it and start drilling again.
what about the off shore oil drilling? ive heard a lot of good things about the gulf of mexico? no facts just chit chat with some friends who work for the drillers. ive only heard of more off shore oil rigs being brought into production not being taken out of service.
Your right crobtex.. rigs are getting stacked out, partially due to the end of the year/budget and the uncertainty of the new administration coming on board..
I'm hearing "finish what they started and we'll see", from all of the different companies around here..
I will keep you guys updated on the situation.. Besides it's cold up here the PS is a must...so far -30
