Anyone familar with Springfield, Missouri?
I'm interviewing for a job in Springfield next week. I noticed there is one Dodge dealer in Spingfield; I believe the name is Central Dodge. Is anyone familar with the area and/or Central Dodge? I also did a search for service stations/truck stops that sell diesel fuel. In the Springfield area I didn't see too many. If you include surrounding areas, there is a lot more. If I get the job, the company is located on E. Sunshine Street. I believe that's in the southeast part of town. Eventually I will be looking for a good location to buy a house.
I noticed there are no Discount Tire Stores in Missouri. I just bought a new set of Michelins from them and paid a bit extra for their life time rotation and tire balance. I also noticed there are no Cummins stores there. We have several Cummins Southern Plaines stores here and I buy some of the parts I need from them instead of the dealer. This move is going to take some getting used to since I've lived in Texas practically all my life except for four years in San Diego, CA. Fortunately, there is just me and my stuff to move so that should make things easier. Of course, this assuming that I get the job.

I live near Springfield... actually my sister and brother in law live there. It's a "big" town for this area. You can get anything you need. It's a big place but it feels small once you get used to all of the roads.
I don't know about the businesses you asked about but the rest of us seem to make it fine without them.

sorry, the only place in Springfield I know how to get to is Bass Pro Shops and I can find it from any direction I come from... like a homing instinct or something..

I stayed in Springfield on a job for about a month back in the late 90's. There is some AWESOME fishing down that way. I think there is a Holley Carb, plant there too.
One other thing, they frown upon lighting fireworks from your Motel balcony, and activities like that could land you in jail for the night.
(Just something to think about).

Better fishing just to the south east near Branson on Table Rock Lake (just down stream of the lake). There is some really good trout fishing, combined with a cheap out of state fishing license and trout stamp.

If you want to fish, you have to go to the White River.

I lived in Joplin which is 75 miles due west. Went to Springfield for the big streetrod events. Flew my big RC planes at the 2 flying fields there. Good town. Most of the area is plains and grass land. Woods south towards Branson. Branson is very very expensive to live or even travel in. If you can afford it there are some good intertainment spots. Over all the area is lower cost of living than other parts of the country. Homes are inching upwards however. KC is about 175 miles so the really big city is just far enough away so it is an event. Kc football and baseball are really fun times. If you like boating, table rock and Grand lake are great. If you have to go straight east and have to go on 60 it is probably the worst trip you will ever take. It is being fixed with 4 lane now but I drove many thousands of miles on that
road.
hope you get the job.
road.hope you get the job.
I think you are correct about it being the only Dodge dealer in Springfield ... but there is a few in the surrounding towns. I bought mine in Ozark which is about a 5-10 minute drive from there.
I hope you get the job ... I love Springfield. Just the right size town to have everything you need but still not so big as to have the Big City problems. As I say that ... they are always building there. Find a place on the outskirts and settle down. You can find places down by the lakes. Lots to see and do.

The Cummins dealer is on East Kearney. Central Dodge and Ozark Dodge are the 2 dealers as well as Carters-Aurora in Aurora Mo. Almost all of the stations in town sell Diesel. I usually buy mine at either Bullseye in Ozark or at the Ozark Wal-mart. Kum and Go stations also sell diesel and are on every other corner. I work out on West Battlefield but live about 32 miles Southeast of Springfield in the National Forest. Yep, I've got lots of hunting out my way. Don't forget Bass Pro on Sunshine and Campbell if you like outdoor stuff. The local dragstrip is out by Rogersville on U hwy. If you have any other questions or need help with anything let me know.

Little did we know that Fireworks are just as illegal within the city limits of Springfield as they are here. Anyhow, some concerned mothers in the pool called po-po on us. He was a very friendly African American officer. He asked me how I liked my room here, I replied "It's pretty nice", he said, "Good, well if you don't quit it with the lighting of the fireworks, your new room for the night is going to be the county jail" I Yes Sir'd my way back to my room and called it a night.
We got a little silly on the out of town jobs, I've since calmed down a bit. I'm more likely to be the one getting ticked of at the kids in the next room down for crap like that.
Thank you guys for all of the comments; especially Jlipskoc and Mcoleman. I really appreciate it. I have done a lot of searches but was not able to find out some of the stuff I'm curious about. Anyway, I passed my phone interview this afternoon with the VP of Accounting and I will be flying up there next Friday for a face to face interview and leaving on Sunday. That will give me some time to look around. and check things out.
