Don't want to spend to much on the aluminum and CF parts until you can fly it.. I learned before there were simulators or electronic Gyros and it took me about 6 months to learn to hover.. Stay with the cheapest parts until you figure this thing out.. And get help.. If it isn't set up right you will NEVER be able to learn to fly it.. You have to fight them to set them up.. if you don't know how to fly it it will just hit the ground during set up...

Good point Gerry. There are simulators for your comp that you can get, and you use your RC that you use to fly the helo with as well.

Much better than an Airplane IMHO.. you learn it right side up and forward then unpside down, then backwards then backwards upside down.. and then try things while spinning (loops, tumbles etc while rotating the tail... what a rush)

It's a pretty expensive hobby if you get serious. Just to fly a mid size machine (50 class) nitro, it costs about $1500 - $2000 in heli and equipment.

Once you have all of your field equipment and tools it's not as bad. Than you start the crash cycle

I have 4 nitro powered machines. 60+ MPH. Very addictive hobby, just like Diesel power. More info @ www.runryder.com

It's about 30" from main blade tip the tail blade tip.

The Vario has a 5-1/2 foot rotor dia.

I looked up the trex 450SA.
Did yours come with the radio?
Are the landing struts aluminum?

No they don't come with radios. You can buy lesser helis that do come RTF (ready to fly) for $300-500 but then you are getting into the cheesier helis that can be difficult to fly because they are less capable.

If you are considering starting out it is best to get a simulator first.

The TrexSA is $199 for the airframe only.
Add electronics and battery and you are in the $600 up range for the flyable heli.

Radios you need 6 channels minimum and about $350 or a used one for a couple hundred.

It's easy to hit $1000 to get started.

Ok, I know I'll be laughed at for this...

My wife bought me the Micro Mosquito for Christmas. It's not a "real" helicopter, but it's fun just the same.

I have that thing's competitor; a "Cyclone Fly Champion Speedy Airplane". It's just a tad bigger than yours; flys for about 8 minutes on a charged battery, seems indestructable. No forward-backwards motion, or tilt motion, but a very cool little toy for $50.
